Stock tire is a 170/80R15 and the rear fender sits so high it looks like a motocross bike to me. It's the only thing I don't like about my VTX and figured a taller tire would kill two birds with one stone so to speak. I'll have to go measure, but the manufacturer specs on the wideside I found is 26.3" and my continental is 25.75" tall so the difference isn't going to be very much, just around 2% which isn't even enough to make my stock speedo correct. Factor in that the wideside will buldge a bit probably with a narrower rim and I'm thinking it will end up aboput 3-5% taller which will drop me highway RPM's by about 150-200rpm's or so. Not a huge difference really just going by the manufacturer specs, but I guess time will tell. If I knew someone who had an extra stock 1300 rear wheel for sale really cheap I would mount it now and I could swap back and forth as I desired Smile

I have a 1300c rear. Would that work for you? It does not have the rotor on it. It went to our friend hick.

George,

That's better than I thought......I was mistaken on the size of the M/T. Shocked I thought it was 180/70, that's why measurements were way off.

In that case you are correct on your choice of tire.

You have a PM as well, and I'll have a tire to put on the rim by the middle of next week.

I have the R and i was looking at the clearance between the drive shaft and the existing 170 and there seems to be around 1" of clearance. twin, you said the 205 has about 3/4" clearance, how can this be possible? i really want to do this mod, but i want to def make sure it will fit. is the 205 only about 1/2" wider than the stock 170? thanks for all replies

Hudi,

I don't know how it does it....but you can see the pics for yourself. The tire (205) in all actual measurements is suppose to be 1/2" wider on both sides than the 170 M/T, but I think the narrow rim has something to do with 205 and room it's got.

I'm stoked to see how this works out. The 205/70R15 would be my choice, since I'm looking for a unidirectional tire. It'll also help with the RPM's a bit since 80% of my driving is highway. bounce bounce bounce bounce I gotta wear out this Kumho first though. I ain't even married yet, but as soon as I told my girlfriend about the 205, she asks, "Didn't you just put that other tire on the bike a few months ago? Do you really need another tire?" She's holding up her left ring finger as she asks this... Shocked Shocked Shocked

Doc,

Be sure to do your homework first on the tire fit! Here's my best advice for wearing out the Kuhmo...burn outs and lot's of them. Because they last a long time if you don't.

My wife used to say that when I rode motorcycle tires before the darkside......hehehehe Must be a MAN thing.

Instpector Darkside,

You at least need armor piercing rounds to kill a 165 or a hundred burn outs....maybe gstanfield can help you out with some ammo. You only need one bullet. cheers Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I think it was a 185 Im in no real hurry, I will go to the tire store and look around, the manager is a nice guy, even tho he rides a HD. Just kidding, I know alot of HD riders that are nice people, they dont care what u ride, I ride with alot of them. One of my friends gives me a bad time, because I have had more problems with my bike than he has, and it got more vib. than his. Its all in good fun.

Wayne,

Keep looking...the 205 is the ticket! I am really loving this thing.

I finally got it to spin last nite coming home from work. I was stuck in rush hour traffic going slowly on a concrete bridge and let the cars get ahead of me and rolling a little past idle, I let it rip. Man, did it bark and take off. I can't spin it like I did my 165...that's for sure.

No hands riding is a real smooth too. At 40 mph I made a couple of moderate turns and I aint talking about just some just kinks in the road with no hands on the handle bars.....so it seems fine to me. No wobbles so far either.

Hey Twin, just seeing how you are liking the 205. it wont be long until i jump the gun. i cant ride for a while now because of the weather but am really excited to get this thing on. i have new mustang seats coming today and someday soon adding the 205, that should make one sweet ride. too bad i have to wait another few months to try it out. thanks for sharing all this great info with everyone. so the douglas 205 is the only one so far that will work? i guess the aggressive thread looks cool, definetely unique.

Hudi......Thanks dude. Glad I could help.

I really love my Douglas 205. I like the looks too! Of course, I have ridden the same 165 for two years with that tread pattern and it doesn't bother me at all. That tread pattern has served me well. Now more people come up to me and those who ride with me that say....What's that on the back of your bike? I tell them and the majority have said they like it. They notice the wide look first and when we stop, then the notice the tread pattern is not a motorcycle pattern....hehehehehe

The ride of this 205 is a dream and I think is because the Douglas has a factory air pressure recommendation of 35 psi. It makes for a smooth ride.

Well with all that being said....right now the only 205 on a stock 1300 rim is the Douglas. Others have said they are going to try some other brand and sizes...but none yet! Till others try some, the only one I know will fit is the Douglas.
