It sounds like you and I are alot alike.
I love it when some tells me I cant do something. Like put a ct on a mc with spokes and run tubless. Or cant run a HD air cleaner or HD highway bar or windshield.
I smell whatcha' are stepping in!!!!!!!!!!! In other words, I feel what you are saying! I march to a different drum! I got more time than money and I like making things with my hands or learning new things.

I would like to martch to a different drummer, mine left his sticks at home...so I hade to give him a couple of spokes.

i just got back from my first ride, about 45miles, on the 205-65/15 The tire is not as wide as some of the others, about 6 3/4 in. But, it handles better than the Kuhmo did, 40lbs. of air, I didnt try anything else, but even not broke in it handles better than anyother ct that I have tried. Its still a little slick, but I burned some of it off in the shop by the door. I think Im going to like this tire.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
Its the only one I could find right away. I like you tire patteren better, but I couldnt find one, and I had to get something on there. I had an old Duncrap on at the time and it was shot. Been working so much this winter I havent had much time.
I thought it would be about the same as the Kuhmo as far as handleing, but it handles better.
I ran a 200 Metz. last summer just trying to burn it up and after it got worn down in the middle, it felt like a ct.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
Just got back from a 80mile rideon some twisties and Interstate, and I have to say, this 205 handles better than anyother ct than I have run.
As you guys remember I have the 1800 final in my 1300, and I can say Im not to old to get it up (the front tire) it comes up pretty easy with the ct on, it really bites. Only one problem, my cluches are from the factory when I bought the bike back in May of 02. and I have over 55k on it, then I can really get it up.1st gear it pops right up, no problem 2nd is a little harder.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
alright guys, been reading this thread and interested in this darkside for a while now. my metz has been pretty good with 14,000 on her but aint paying the price for a new one. so i purchased the 205/65/r15 douglas extra-trac 2 today for $65 and some change. i don't have a tire changer so a fellow i know is gonna put it on for me tomorrow. looking forward to it. it's going on an '05 retro with cast rims.
was confident about this switch, then got a little nervous about it. but after reading this entire thread, i'm confident again that i am going to love it as much as you guys.
thanks for all of the info.

ruwalf,
Go for it!!!!! Darkside Rulz........ Since I have gotten the Douglas 205, I love it! If you gotten 14,000 miles out of a mc tire, you should get 30,000 out of the car tire...... Most of us couldn't get 7,000 miles out of a mc tire.
Welcome to our site and let us know how it turns out?

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
ok, the ct was on as of about 11:00 this morning. rode about 60 miles roughly and all i can say is, as the rest of you are familiar with, what have i been waiting on. wished i had read about this darkside deal before i ever put the first tire on after the factory duncrap wore out. i love it and will never return back to the other side.
as for 14,000 on the metz, i haven't got to go to the mountains this year like i usually do. thats where i wear 'em out so quick. but neither do i do burnouts. so i am looking forward to a couple of years on this tire.
i put over 30,000 on the first 2 years, but have slowed down a little now. don't have to drive as far too work anymore. bike has 39,000 on it right now. if i make it to 60,000 or more on this douglas you are gonna be looking at one happy camper.
the only caveat to this tire change was my guy that was gonna change the tire was unavailable today and i already had the tire off. so i took it to the local stealer and he charged me $40 for the tire change with the rim already off the bike. what a rip off. i will have my own tire changing setup before the next tire change. harbor freight, here i come.

ruwafl, if you go the harbor freight route, make sure you secure it good before using it.
But you have a couple years to worry about it...... Go ride, get the mold release off of it.
300-500 miles is where you really start to notice the advantage of the car tire....
It just keeps getting better....

ruwafl,
Congrats on your darkside! Be sure to play with your air pressure and find your riding style match to your new car tire!
