Will do.
BTW, the hieghts was the turn on for me as I do a lot of highway and didn't want a smaller tire cause it spins too many RPM's at 85mph anyway.
I'll get the measurement right after breakfast, my wife just called down and said it's almost ready.

You're welcome, heck I like being a test pilot.
OK, the General Grabber measures 84-1/2" around as compared to the 84-3/4" for the Continental which is slightly worn but not much.

Because it was the only tire I found in that size that I liked the tread pattern on that also seemed like it would work with the skinnier wheel.
PLus I kinda felt like the sidewall would be a tad stronger and since it was going to be taller I didn't want a squishy feeling. FWIW, it's a "sport truck" tire made for S-10's and the like and really is no heavier than a car tire would be in the same size.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
I lookedup the weights of all the tires in question and I found this
165/80R15 Kumho 17lbs
205/65R15 Duglas 22lbs
205/70R15 General 23lbs
170/80R15 Dunlop 404 19lbs
170/80R15 Continental milestone 20lbs
So you can see the tire I went with is heavier, but only by three pounds over what I was running before. The Kumho is lighter than even the MT's and so should be the best accelerating of the bunch, especially since it's a tad shorter and lowers the final gearing effectively.
There you have it,

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
More pictures, this time mounted.
And some clearance shots here. The distance between the red lines is the clearance and it's about 1/4-3/8" or so. PLenty of room.
And clearance on top of the tire.
Well, the weather has actually cooperated pretty decent as it's been above freezing for several hours now and direct sunlight has melted the roads. I can now go and see how it handles on wet, dry and snow all on the same ride
I'll be back in a bit with my ride report. BTW, I'll start a new thread with my report, don't want to turn this one into a mega thread and get it closed down

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
Great job!!!! George!
I got pics that will have to wait for Monday to be able to post of Muntz's new darkside 165 side by side with my 205. Wow, what a difference between the two tires. I got pics of Ebony going under the knife...hehehehe Of course today was cool being around Muntz, Tanglefoot, bab1800n2.
Just so you know, the little motorcycle shop that has done most of our darksides and has been the coolest place to hang out at, is now closed to the public. Man, I am sad to see it go. Thanks Junior (the owner) for being such a good friend.

New widesider here
This is a General Ameri TE from sears. They are on clearance, I guess sears is getting rid of the line.
Anyway, got it cheap $39 so I couldn't pass it up. So far it rides great. I will have to spend more time on it to tell if there are any problems, but none so far.
This is the tire next to the Dunlop original.
On the bike, looks good.
This is the only shot that shows any of the tire, there is just too much in the way from any other angle.

Looks good, what size is it? I'm guessing a 205/65?
Also, welcome to the board.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
One of these days I'm gonna jump on my bike and come down for a visit, you can count on that. I'm still thinking it would be fun for a couple of darkside cruiser riding guys to show up for the fastlane rally and Carving the Ouachitas, the poor sport bike guys wouldn't know what to do with us.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
Yes that is a 205. And please add me to the list. I will have to get a copy of the darkside sig stamp for that other site...
It will probably be weeks before I ride enough to knock "new" off the tires but I will keep you updated. So far it feels exactly like you guys have been describing. A little more push on the handlebars, but certainly not a problem, just something to get used to. Also, it is a little strange not feeling every bump in the road. Sometimes the bike seems like its floating its soo smooth. I can't wait to get the wife on the back.
Im running about 35psi right now, and I may experiment later to see if there are any upsides to more air.
Thanks again for a great mod.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
Looks good willdc....one question...is your fender uneven in that one rear pic on the jack? I notices my C fender was a bit askew before but didn't think the R/S fenders had that issue.
Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
That fender does look a little off, but its not noticeable at any other time. Normally you are looking down at the bottom of the fender, so there are no straight lines to compare against.
I'll be honest, I never noticed it until I looked at these pics.
I have quite a bit of room between my tire and the swingarm, so my tire isn't one of the wider 205's. Georges looks wider. That doesn't mean I will be changing that tire again any time soon. I'm sure it will be easier the second time, but there were several of those "why was this a good idea?" moments today... Of course now looking back it was worth it.

Re: Twin's Wideside mod......205 on a stock rim!
Maybe it looks wider because the fender is smaller or the camera is closer???????
Hard to tell without a tape measure.
So, I take it the 205 s take less air pressure?

The Falken 205/65/15 I'm looking at takes up to 51 psi per the manufacturer. Not sure I'd run 51 in it - maybe start around 40-45 psi & go from there. Man, I want to get that tire soon.
