CT tire pressure?
Installed 205/70-15 General Grabber on my 2006 VTX 1300R. Tire pressure stamped on the tire is not to exceed 51psi. What is good and safe pressure to ride on? Will a greater pressure will give the CT a rounder profile. Any thoughts?

Re: CT tire pressure?
We've mostly been running what the tire says or a little under... Do some experimenting and find the right ride..
I'm running my Douglas at the recommended tire pressure with no problems at all.
Hope this helps.

Re: CT tire pressure?
There is no recommended pressure on the tire other than to say not to exceed 51psi

Re: CT tire pressure?
In this case I would start out at 50 and ride for a while then try 45 and ride for a while.. See which one you like best...
But I'd probably end up at 48 to 51 psi.

Re: CT tire pressure?
I have 205/65/15 Falken ZE-512, that has a max pressure of 51psi at a weight rating of 1470 lbs (or something like that). My old CT was a 165/80/15 that had a max psi of 44. I always ran 44 in that old tire & am running 44 in the Falken right now. I will probably run it for a while & than up to 48-50psi to see if there is much difference. I wouldn't run any less than 40-44psi. Just my $.02 worth though.

Re: CT tire pressure?
I have never ran what was recomended by the factory, in my cars or trucks or bikes.
I run what works best for me and the machine. I cant beleave you would need 51lbs of air in a 700 lb bike, with only 4 to 500 lbs max on the rear wheel. I really think you should play with it ( the air pressure) and go wth what feels good for you.
I have a walk in van that is about 10,000lbs with my tools in it and I only run 50lbs if air in the tires on it, and my truck and other van I run 40 to 45lbs.

Re: CT tire pressure?
At first the thought was to max out the pressure on the car tires. Now we are finding that running in the lower ranges does several things for you without giving up any of the benefits of the car tire.
Actually have improved handling
More comfortable ride, the tire absorbs some more of the road bumps.
Better traction, the lower air pressure 42-46 (some are going lower) allows the tire to conform better.
There is not enough weight on the bikes to flex the side wall even at low pressure (lower 30's) and hard cornering.
On my first car tire I ran higher pressures (44)for most of the life of the tire. All I did was wear down the center of the tread. extended its short life some what palying with the pressures and found that 35 was better.
Just play with the pressure and find what works best for you. Recommend taking the bike out starting with your maximum pressure you would want to run. put several miles on it like that then drop it 5. repeat this process til you find the range you are comfortable with, then tweak it from there.
Good luck
See you out there

Re: CT tire pressure?
On my vans an pickup the max. tire press. is for max weight. Read it carefully.
If it says 51 or 65 you dont have to run that much because you only have about 350 to 450 lbs fo bike plus your weight on the tire,a car van or truck, the min. weight is 3,000lbs plus.
Weight of the auto makes a big diff.
Just my .02 cents.

CT presure
The pressure stamped on the tire is the max pressure that should be put on, I'm work as auto mechanic for many years and the tire pressure recommended for many of the vehicles that use that tire size(205/65 R 15 ) is between 28 and 32 psi (it is stamped on a sticker found in the driver door or the pillar ), and on a vehicle the tire have to handle more stress than in a bike that the weight less
In my opinion if the pressure is lower there will be more surface contact with the road in straight driving and when turning

Re: CT tire pressure?
I run the first 25 miles on my falken 512 (205/65 R 15 94 H ) and in hard cornering felt something like the tire wall was flexin too much , then increased the presure at 38 and feel better, right now is at 40 and feel good even with a passenger
What i don't know is how long it take to remove the molding completely
I will keep tryng different presures

Re: CT tire pressure?
My 185 took about 600 miles before it started to handleing good. The 165 only took about 200 to 300 miles.
I think the ct takes more to wear it off.

Re: CT tire pressure?
I started ut with the max air pressure 51 psi I would wet the tire down and ride across the driveway so it would leave a footprint on the concrete. then i lowered the pressure until I got the largest contact patch. which was about 42 psi and that is where i am running it now. I may lower it a little more. but I think I am pretty close to where I will run it all the time.

You definitely don't want a "rounder profile". I think you will find 35-38 to your likeing, but check several psi's.

Re: CT tire pressure?
For my 2006 C find out that the best pressure even whit my wife on the back ( She 174 and i 185 pounds ) is 40 psi on the 205/65 R 15 94 H FALKNER 512, i don't like how it handle at lower pressure specially when turning
