Hidden hitch 2003 1800r, Darksideable? Empty Hidden hitch 2003 1800r, Darksideable?

Post  Bulldogparts Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:54 pm

I'm about to build a hidden (under the fender) hitch for my bike. It's patterned after the on that Dauntless Motors has on their website. I'm wanting to go Darkside, as I'm only about 2k miles from needing a new tire. After reading all the posts, I've decided on a 205/65-16 tire size. Does anyone have this tire/hitch combination already, and if so, do I need to watch for any special clearance problems with the hitch? Again, it's a 2003 1800 R. Thanks to all of you on here. It's been really informative reading.

Maybe I should have asked about ANY tire combination with the hidden hitch on an 1800R.

oh, and the N fender has a lot less room, but a couple people have fabricated hitches under them that will still clear CT's... I'm still waiting to get my hands on one! Laughing

Sorry, can't really help you there! I was hoping somebody would be able to give you some advice, but you may be the guinea pig for this!

Do all your homework and give it your best shot! Do a write up and pics to help others! That's usually how it works around here.

Yep. I was hoping someone else had done it, too. But, I'm game. Gonna start it and HOPEFULLY have it done before the end of March. I think I've got the skills, just no shop. Kinda iffy when you gotta work around someone else's schedule to use a shop. But, I'll probably have plenty of incentive to get it done after I get started. My lady likes to ride more than me, I think!! She'll be pushing for the finished product, just so we can ride.

I wonder if a Dauntless would fit with a 195-60-16?

I'm kinda thinkin that it'll probably go alright using the 205, but I'm just looking for a few mm leeway. Haven't been able to find many variations in a 16" rim size with the Mich Hydro, GY TT, or Bridg Potenza G009, which seem to be really praised on here. I've been looking on the manufacturer's websites, and haven't been able to find anything narrower than the 205 for those tires in a 16".
Have I missed one somewhere? Thanks

Here a Bridgstone Potenza 195-55-16

Bridgstone

Here's a Bridgstone Blizzak snow and ice studless winter tire 195-60-16. Don't laugh Laughing read what it say's about that tire, sounds impressive in wet and dry conditions.I've been eyeing thistire for some time.

Check the specs, that 195/55 has an O.D. of 24.4", stock 180/70-16 is 26.02", so it will lower your rear axle height and frame, half the difference or .81", a little more than 3/4". The 195/60 is a little taller at 25.2". The shorter you go, the higher from actual your speedo will read also. Good luck

For those interested I got the link for the (apparently R) trailer hitch... but could be modifidied for an N I would think, and not being visible without the ball on is a plus in my book!
