NEED HELP FAST! - FITMENT: 205-55/16 on 2003 1800R?
Hi fellow darksiders.
I have a kind of emergency here!
Please help FAST! I'm waiting to work! I have everything I need to start, but looking at the current set-up raised a question or two.
I just got a Toyo Proxes R1R 205-55/16. I can't wait to try it, but I am concerned. Right now I have a Metzler 880 200-60/16 on the beast, and the clearance between the tire and the right side of the swing-arm is almost 3/4 of an inch, but the clearance between the tire and the drive-shaft is just barley an 1/8th of an inch.
If the 205 is .2 wider than the 200, is it going to fit, or will the 205 rub my drive shaft? Is something wrong with my set-up? Is there an "alignment" adjustment on these rear tire/shafts?
I have the tire and new stems in hand, but don't want to do all the work and spend all the time & cash if it isn't going to fit and there's nothing I can do about it!!
Thanks
Wendell

2003 1800R
A few weeks ago I put a Goodyear TT on mine 205/60/16 with no fitting problems it clears on the left side, little over an 1/8" and plenty on the right side. So far I love it.

One half of the .2" is .1" (remember half the the width is on each side of the tire). If your measurements are correct, 1/8" clearance is 0.125"... so it shouldn't rub, but it will clean off the mud.
You should measure the tire width rather than take it from the side wall, some tires bulge a little. YMMV

I had 2 GYTT 205-60-16 on different VTX 1800's. No problems and what a great ride.
