Hello fellow darkers & widesiders,

will be changing my tire soon, already have about 6K on original dunflop and am thinking to go wide/darkside on it.
Have '06 1300R and am start thinking what kind of tires did you guys bought/mount on your scoots.
Just to get general idea what's available on the wide/darkside.
Instead of searching tons of post, wouldn't be nice to have it on 1 place??
So we new loorkers for wide/darkside can see our options and choose whichever we like the best.
And would be nice to hear your comment on current tire, like/dislike/handling etc...

Hope it's not to much to ask.

Thanks a bunch.

This is the link with the most info......I am sure Twin will jump in here and mention the difficulties of trying to do what you asked.
https://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com/vtx-1300-tech-f11/twin-s-wideside-mod205-on-a-stock-rim-t220.htm

Basically the tire needs to be 5" or less across the bead surface.

Yep, I was following this board for some time.
Just wish that we have pics of tires on one place, so we can compare the look and diferences between them.
Soon will be also dark/widesider myself, as soon when I find some tire that I like the look like falcen ze512 and grabber.
Was hopping to see a pics with short comment.

Dino - here are pics of my Falken ZE-512 205/65/15. Only have about 400 miles on it but so far I'm a happy camper. I put 18k on my Arizonian 165R15 so I've been rollin on the darkside for a while now. Two distinct difference between the 165R15 & the 205/65/15 that I have noticed: 1. the wider 205 wants to right itself much more than the 165 did. 2. at low speeds I can feel the ruts & grooves in the road much more with the 205 than I did with the 165. I don't get pushed around, I just notice the ruts & grooves much more now.

I would like to add with regard to General Grabber, that tire mounted perfectly and effortlessly. No cooking oil or any other unusual lubrcant was used beyond what is normally used in the mounting procedures. Bead seated at just over 100 psi or so. Also, looking at the profile of the tire you can see that it is not really all that flat. It has a nice "roundish" shape looking from behind. I really did not notice much (if any) difference in riding. I certainly did not feel anything I did not like. Did not take it on the highway, rode city streets up to 55-60 MPH.

That's good news Clarence. Glad to hear it. Just wait till you ride two up, or have to stop fast, or ride in what ever mother nature can throw at and it will really show you what it can do....... Very Happy Thanks for dropping by and telling us what you have found.

That Grabber looks great on your bike! I haven't gone over to the darkside yet, but am entertaining the thought. I have a 1300S (spoked rim) - will the Grabber 205-70R15 fit?

I am getting ready to jump on the wagon with wideside/darkside.

In next few weeks will be replacing my stock dunnie for probably falken ze 512.
Already called discount tire store close by to my house and it's about $80
spoke to local honda shop and those guys told me to bring my bike and they will take weel off and mount tire for $45.

If anyone knows anyone else who is selling for less with s/h, please let me know.

I think I have to replace the front tire soon also.

Which one would you guys recommend for the front 2006 1300R???

thanks.

So I am seeing 205/70-R15 tires put on Bone stock 1300R models ??

Any mods needed to get clearance ? Any rubbing when hitting a bump ??

I am all about doing this, I just want to confirm what I am seeing.

Thanks

George (gstanfield) is using that size tire and he said it worked great. I haven't seen any reports of rubbing. There are other factors involved though. Stock or modified shocks, 1 or 2 up riding , road conditions.....bottom line, it should work just fine. I run a 205/65/15 and with Mrs. D on the back have not had any problems at all. I have stock springs, and our combined weight is around 340 lbs.

The hardest choice is what tire.....

Pics of your darkside/wideside Empty Quick shot of my DarkSider - BigD

Post  BigDarkster Thu Jul 03, 2008 11:33 am

Here is a quick shot of my DarkSider - from the rear of course...
You'll have to excuse the dirt and grime..... No Garage to wash in and it's been raining lately so it's been parked in the shed. But the last couple of days have been nice, and I've been riding instead of washing.. Got a run coming this weekend, guess maybe I should clean it up a little before then.
Anyway, as you can see, there is a Goodyear Assurance Tripletred 205/70R15 stuffed up inside that big fender. It's got about 300 miles or so on it now and I have to admit - the more I ride with it, the more I like it. I wasn't so sure at first, but once I got the air pressure dialed in, it just started feeling right!
The bike is an 06 VTX 1300s with about 18 thousand miles on it now. Currently is has an 07 VTX 1300r Mag style rear wheel.
And I have to admit that the entire process of getting that tire bought, mounted and stuffed in there was actually pretty painless. If anyone wants details, just ask.
