I have a 1989 Honda GL1500 with a Hannigan sidecar, and I will be replacing all three tires soon. I was wondering if any members have recommendations on tires that would work well with this rig.

Currently, the Wing has standard motorcycle tires, Dunlop Elite3 130/70-18 up front and 160/80-16 rear. Sidecar tire is a Nanking 155/80R12.

I was considering going to the dark side on the rear, but it's not clear that there are car tires available that wouldn't change the gearing and potentially the geometry significantly. There used to be the Austone Taxi tire in 175/75-16, but that apparently is no longer available. A posting I looked at said the replacement for the Taxi tire was the 175R16 Maxxis Blackwall, but that one says it is an 80% aspect ratio which would make it almost a full inch larger diameter than the stock tire. Does anyone know if that would even clear the swingarm, fender, etc. on the GL1500?

Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I haven't seen a 1500 Gold Wing with a rear car tire, but I've read that it can be done and I've seen a photo of one. Here's a list that I've accumulated over the years. I've yet to try one. I am running CTs on several bikes, but not the GL1500.

Dunlop SP Winter Sport 175/60/R16……. Run Flat
Dunlop sport 5000 195/60X16
Falken ZE-912 Size 195/55-16 V
175R16 Austone Taxi Tire
SP WINTER SPORT 3D ROF 175/60 R16 82H runflat
Vredstein Comtrac 175 75
Federal Formoza, Dunlop Winter Sport ROF
Bridgestone Turanza.
