Help pick my 205
Ok, I think I'm coming back over part-time. I now have a second 1300C rim to mount a CT on.
I want you, the experts of the Darkside, to help me pick my CT. I want to go Wideside, to a 205.
Please post your suggestions, along with what the tire cost you and any pics you can.
Thanks!

Re: Help pick my 205
Hey SPyKER,
How ya's doing? Did you ever get well? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
I think the UHP Grabber 205/70/15 is the best so far....at least that's my opinion! I think they all are have good qualities, but our resident official rider course instructor "gstanfield" runs a darkside and he loves his Grabber and nothing but raves about it! I think it looks the best also because it a uni-directional tire. The 70 series has a taller sidewalls than the 65 and thus gives you a little more ground clearance for handling! Quite a few of our guys have run the Grabber and feel the same way!
Insp #484 has a cool looking tire also! I will try to get you some pics of these!
Now my WalMart brand Douglas 205/65/15 hasn't let me down either and have no complaints about it! It's just that it's a multi-directional tread pattern, but handles like a dream! I will stick with the 65 series because of my short legs! So, I guess it is just a preference thing! I will try another brand just because I can.....IF I CAN EVER WEAR THIS THING OUT.....
Let us know if this is the kind of data you are looking for!

Re: Help pick my 205
I guess I also should mentions that I have Progressive 440HD 11.5" Shocks on the back. Do you think that would cause a clearance issue with the 70?

Re: Help pick my 205
No, I don't think there will be any issues with the short shocks. I have a ton of clearance with the 65 series! You might possibly have to grind some points under you inner fender, but I doubt it! It's only taller by a 3/16"!
Some guys will be on here soon to give you other opinions. It's the holidays and we don't have as many members as the OA site!

Re: Help pick my 205
General Grabber here also: 205/70/15...very happy with it. Had to let air out in order to get it to fit back under bike, but after mounted up, and re-filled with air - no worries.

Re: Help pick my 205
+1 on the General Grabber UHP 205/70/15, I have plenty of clearance with the stock shocks,
so I would not think that the 11.5 progressives would be a problem.

Re: Help pick my 205
So it looks like basically about $65 for the Grabber and $100 for the Triple Tred. Sound about right?

I saw the grabber on the back of a jeep the other day and liked it. But yesterday, I sprung for the tripletread. This thing is beautiful. I'll be posting some pics as soon as I see inspector next week and get some help getting it on.

Re: Help pick my 205
Spyker, I think it's all said in the posts above. I don't think a 65 or a 70 will interfere with your shocks.
Which tire? just check them out, read the posts on this forum and follow your own feeling.
The height can be an issue, therefore you can check several links, one of them is:
[url=http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html]
I have only used and abused one tire, the 205 Nexen. For me it was ok, but now that I've changed and looked more specific before I bought, I realized that there's a whole lot of differences between several tires.
Last weekend I bought my new one and I noticed that within the same size difference in height and width can be pretty big, clearly visible just with the eyes. I'm talking almost 1/2 of an Inch difference.
For me very important are the sides of the tire. One is more round then the other thus corners more smooth. My new 225 corners easier then my old 205.
Good luck, let us know what you choose and your experience.
Please note that there's a film over the tire, so break her in a bit carefully, treat her like a virgin.
(I know guys, we all treat them differently)
