How WIDE can I go?????????

I have this posted in vtx1800 bourd as well, The plan is to use a sumo-x 240 fender assembly and i'd like to mod the swingarm myself by removing mateial and rewelding new material back in. The main ? is will the stock wheel handle a goodyear 225\50\ZR16 eagle F1 GS-D3 . I can make the swingarm work just curius on the tire seating the rim and the differance in handling going from a not so short sidewall CT to a shorter sidewall CT.The reason I'm doing this is I love the sumo-x 240 look but #1 don't want to leave the darkside and # 2, Don't want that 1400$ to leave my wallet either(cost of 240 wheel and tire) Thanks all.

The rule of thumb I've read is to make sure the inside tire width (the part that seats the rim) is an inch or less difference from the inside width of the rim.

Can anyone tell me what the measurement is of the inside of the rim on a 1800 retro. I'm on the road so I can't look myself thanks
