IMO, the 205/55 and the 1300 drive are DEAD freaking on... I know mine is GPS verified as being just incredibly close... under 1 mph off at various speeds from 50 to 80 and not even noticeable below that. I'm running Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R. YMMV.

I second that. I've got the same tire, same final drive(not as shinny) and it's less than 1mph off. Potenza rocks.

Thanks people! So if I'm reading you right, I can get any 205/55/16 tire and I'll be within 1 mph? Correct? Now-How wide can I go and not have to do any mods other than grinding the ears off the inner fender?

Cant' tell you how wide to go, but Morgan's tire looks REALLY cool on his bike. Can't hardly tell that it's a car tire. Great tread pattern and rounded sides. It's a tried and true tire also.

What all is involved in changing the final drive and how does it effect the power of the 1800 going down to the 1300?

It's easy. You remove both shocks, remove the axle, remove the four bolts holding the final drive on. Jack up the bike as high as you can go and wiggle the whole thing out of there. After greasing or paste-ing the spline, put it back together.

I promise, you'll never look for 6th gear again.

You don't have to remove both shocks, actually. Just the drive side one. I PROMISE it's not moving "down" except in "number of teeth on the drive." 33 to 31 teeth. THe bike is a smigeon more anemic off the line, it snaps thru 2-4 easier and has a "lighter" feeling, and you won't shift to 5th gear until you're ready to be leggy on the highway.... 65 to 70 mph for 5th gear. It's like a 6th gear. And don't grease the splines... moly paste only. I've seen the splines of my bike after a few thousand miles with grease...the grease doesn't stick where it belongs. Do it yourself, do it right, use moly paste.

EMLLYN... I'm sorry, I can't tell you that you can buy ANY 205/55 tire and it'll be within 1 mph. Some tires, tho they have identical numbers, are bigger or smaller around than others a little bit. Tread depth, etc... But I'd be willing to bet that most 205/55s on 1800s with 1300 drives will be VERY accurate.

Love the 1300 final. Need to be 70 mph before going into 5th or your lugging it. Real easy swap tho. I'd guess 2 hrs and I was ready to go, and had never done one before. Just read up on it, and make sure you use the moly paste!
