hey guys new and looking for a tire
hey everyone i am new to the site and i have been reading as much as i can between going to school and working it doesn't leave me much time to do much. i am always trying new things out and would love to put a CT on my bike it is a 2002 1800C i have had it for about 2 months now and i already need new tires so i have been looking for some and stumbled on this site so i started reading. So my question is what kind of tire should i put i would like to put something that is sporty like what you would find on a corvette or and BMW maybe but i am new to CT too i have never owned a car only trucks with mud tires so i know nothing about the tread patterns of CT. i hope to learn a lot from here and any help anyone can give me would be great

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
Johnathan,
My brother likes the TOYO T1R for a darkside. There are plenty of choices for an 1800 that are fantastic. Thanks for coming by and letting us help you. More guys will come by soon and give you their picks for tires.

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
Hey Jon, You have several options. First you should read everything on this board, and narrow down your choices by your preferences. While your changing tires you can accomplish other things at the same time, like raise or lower your rear height, make speedo more accurate, or just go for the look you want and to hell with the rest. The Toyo T1R is excellent, and was my first choice, but only available in low profile, and I wanted a taller tire. Do some homework and figure out wich way you want to go.

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
well by what i was reading on here i will be going with 205/55/16 this is what i have been seeing most people use my only question about this size is. Is everyone that is running this size seeing their speedometers being fairly accurate or should i expect a big difference

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
The stock tire reads a little higher than actual, and the smaller diameter 55 will read even higher, but I don't know exactly how much. The ones that read dead on with 55's have 1300 final drives with higher gearing than 1800's.

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
My 1800 with a 1300 drive and a 205/55 tire is pretty well dead on according to my GPS.
205/55 with an 1800 drive on an 1800 will be off. You'll read 7 to 10% faster than you're going, in most cases.
If you want a sporty tire, the tire I have fits the bill. Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R. It's about a $120 tire. You can see the tire in the Darksider logo above.
This link is to the picture below, but a much larger format if you want to see detail.

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
Most 205/65-16's, but check the O.D. of whatever Brand and model your interested in, and make sure it's over 26.02", which is the stock Dunlop spec., most will be around 26.50", but some brands vary.

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
Yep, for some the 205/60 has been good... just depends on the O.D. But I don't believe a 205/55 could possible NOT throw the speedo off.

Most people try to find a 1300 guys who wants more "get up" and less gas mileage who wants to trade the 1800 drive to get that.......... As gas prices go up it's getting harder and harder to find a 1300 who wants to trade! Good luck.

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
Yokohama is a good name, Im not familiar with that particular model, but it's on the list of tires used. Ask a tuner car guy, "Yoko make fine Tire!" Good luck, and give us your thoughts after you and the tire are broken in.

If your buddy has a machine that does mag wheels he can mount it for you. Just pull the rim off and take it to him. Nothing to it really.
See you out there

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
got everything on and took it for a ride at first it didn't feel any different when doing slow speed turns but then i got a little more speed and i see what you guys are talking about it is like putting a steering stabilizer on my truck when you turn and start to straighten out the bike just wants to go right back to upright i love it. The only thing is that the bike feels like it wants to go right more now any ideas about that one

Re: hey guys new and looking for a tire
Welcome to the Darkside , I don't know what that is pulling to the right ? sounds like i read this before someone else had this same thing happen but i can't remember who or when , ,,, Twin do you remember and what they did to fix it?
Well good luck , have fun , and after the first 200 miles the mold release will be worn off and it will feel natural to have the bike straighten up out of a turn.
