Already tried them Tuesday. First, they will not change tires on Goldwings or large Harleys. Second, they refuse to mount a car tire if I just bring in the wheel.

Don't know person's name I spoke to but there was only one person in the shop around 2:15pm Tuesday. If you find out that he will change the tire to a car tire on or off the goldwing, let me know. My rear tire is very bald. Thanks.

Here is a suggestion that someone said....
{take the tire and wheel to any shop and tell them you made a trailer out of motorcycle wheels and you need this one mounted..}

Re: Trying to go to the darkside in Asheville, NC
My biggest concern on removing the wheel and trying to find a place is that I have to use the lay over on the side method to remove the wheel. This is due to the fact I have a trailer hitch on it and it looks extremely involed to get enough of the hitch off to roll the tire out the back. So that is why I an in search of a place to do the whole thing, or confirmation that I can bring the wheel in and get a car tire on it fairly quickly, 1 to 2 hours. I have read that some walmarts may even change it if I say it is for a trailer.

What year is this GW.... Ah so you never said any thing about a trailer hitch..
As I know the newer GW have the easy hub like the BMW....
You could try a CanAm (spyder) shop

Re: Trying to go to the darkside in Asheville, NC
I mention in my first post it is an '03 Goldwing. I did not think the trailer hitch was too much of an issue since I am willing to use the lay it down method if I can expect to get the car tire mounted in 1 to 2 hours. Not sure what a BMW has but the Goldwing mounting is more like a car with 4 or 5 bolts mounted to the bike then it is like a smaller bike wuth an axel through it.

Re: Trying to go to the darkside in Asheville, NC
I think my biggest issue is not the ability for a shop to get the car tire mounted, it is the agreement that they will mount a car tire instead of a motorcycle tire on the rim.

Re: Trying to go to the darkside in Asheville, NC
Someone said this......
Call Randy Miller at Miller's Cycle tomorrow at 828-683-3060. He's a local custom bike builder/Hot Rodder. He knows most of the independents in WNC and might give you a lead if he can't do it.
Westside Scooter Sales at 828-667-8182 might be of help. I know their name is misleading but they sell and work on all bikes, atv's, pwc, boats, etc. They might at least make some calls if he can't mount it.
MR Cycles is probably the largest multi brand new/used dealer in the area on Hendersonville Rd. 828-277-6601 is their main number who probably wont mount it but might know someone.

Re: Trying to go to the darkside in Asheville, NC
Search around. I have found that some Mom & Pop tire shops
that have a rim grip tire changer will do it, no problem.
That is what I use locally, they only charge me $8. Good Luck

Close, but no cigar! The Wing does have a single sided swingarm ,but it has 5 studs/nuts like a car rim.
To the OP,it won't hurt a thing laying it over for a while. What I would do is let it sit for a while after you get it back upright before trying to fire it up.Just to give the fluids a chance to settle back in where they normally would be.Especially the engine oil.
Apparently Wally Mart will mount CT's on bike rims.Probably because they don't know the difference.

Re: Trying to go to the darkside in Asheville, NC
So I finally got my car tire mounted in Asheville, NC. Here's the rest of the story:
Friend of mine suggested to call this one guy that worked on his bike which was a shop behind the person's house. Called him and explained about mounting a car tire on the goldwing. Turns out he does not mount tires on bikes but gave me another person's number that may mount the car tire. Called that person and he could mount the car tire on the rim for $35 plus if I wanted him to remove it from the bike and install it back, it would be another $50. He said 2pm would be fine. He also wanted be to call an hour before I would come on Saturday to confirm he still has time but he thought he should. This was last Thursday. Since I feel that $50 was too much to remove and install the wheel, I decided to use the lay over method. I watch several youtube videos Friday night. Had a person schedule to come over about 1/2 hour before I was to take the wheel to the other guy just in case I need help getting the bike down and back up. So my friend ended up coming over about 1pm . On his way over, I called the guy to confirm the appointment at 2pm. Turns out he had no time to do it. Since my friend was almost at my house, we decided to take the wheel off and try Walmart and other places since he would not have time next week. This would also prove I can take the wheel off myself and lower and raise the bike by myself so I can take it to the guy when he has time next week. On the way to walmart, we decided to stop at another place first on the way. So we went in and told the guy I have a motorcycle wheel that I would like the car tire mounted on it for my ""trailer"". He looked at it and had to get the manager out to see if it could be done. The manager agreed to do it for $18. I told him the tire should be put on the same direction as the current one is on. I think he saw through my "trailer" lie but understood why I say it to avoid any liability that it could impose. He made a not on the recipt to mount it the same direction as the original tire. He told me it would be about 2 hours (very busy day). So when we came back, picked up the wheel and mounted it back on the bike. I was able to pick the bike up myself. We looked at the tire and it seems strange the way the pattern was. Researched the same tire on a goldwing picture and it turns out it was mounted in the wrong direction. Too late to unmount it and go back to the store. Took it back today, meet the same manager, he said no problem to flip it. Rode on the new tire on the Blue ridge Parkway for about 30 miles. Could not really tell the difference since: 1) only had goldwing for about 1.5 months, 1500 miles 2) Have not ridden the goldwing in two weeks due to my fall and my old tire was really, really bald 3) I ride a NC700x daily so the goldwing is very different handing.
Thanks for everybody giving me ideas to get it mounted. I did not mention which store I had it mounted since I did not want to get them in trouble for doing it. Still don't know if walmart would do it. I think it would have been easier to get the car tire mounted if I already had the same size car tire mounted on the rim. That was my backup plan because doing all this time, I got a wheel with a car tire mounted off of ebay as a backup method.
