darksiding a sportsbike
looking for some advise on dark siding a sports bike, its a kawi zx9r that's been setup for straight line racing (7 over swing, 3" drop in rear, airshifter/auto shift) it pulls street duty on nice days but i never ride it like a sports bike (ie. I still have one inch of chicken strips on both sides of the tire) Im running a 6 inch rim in the back and thinking about a 205/55/17, any advise?

I don't know much about racing sport bikes but I don't believe I would do it, especially if you do ride it on the road. JMO, addd about 3 dollars and you can buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks!! I do enjoy my CT on the Wing and I use every inch of it.

We have a member on here that holds records running a car tire on a sport bike

There is the link to his profile, look at some of his earlier posts on how and why he did it.
Would I do it? Hells yeah. I enjoy taking my darkside wing to the strip just to play. You should see the change in looks that comes over the sprot bike crowd when I launch and eat their asses up .... until the 60 foot light, then they own me. But that launch is impressive.
See you out there

Re: darksiding a sportsbike
Some FJR and St riders run ct's and live to tell about it. They even say how well the ct handles V mc tire. Most have not gone back to a mc tire that went to the darkside.
A 215/50-17 will give you more choices of tires and the shorter sidewall should wobble less if it does go into a wobble. I don't know if anyone here has gone as fast as your bike should go in a 1/4 mile, if you get a good launch I think you could hit a true 135+ mph at the end of the 1/4 mile. A 215/50 is a little shorter than a 205/55(98.5 V 100 mph) and a 215 is good on a 6" rim. I would go to a tire store and find a tire with the stiffest sidewall.

there are several V-strom riders that have gone to the darkside, on both 1000 and 65o cc models

went darkside for 6 miles (street) and then went back to mc tire . I will use the power of the dark side when drag racing

Re: darksiding a sportsbike
I guess it depends on the bike/rider - there is a vid on Utube of a Triumph Triple with a CT following some sportbikes doing a...fair...job, and
keeping up with them. He loved the tire. I thought it was a bit wide for sporting corners.
