Re: Dynabeads
Actually, I think www.innovativebalancing.com does a better job of explaining the science of how these work than I ever could. If there's anything that isn't answered there I'll certainly do my best to try to answer it for you.
I got a PM asking me to post on this thread as to why someone would want to use these instead of conventional wheel weights so I'm going to try to give at least some of the reasons here. I'm sure I'll miss some but this ought to give anyone a basic idea of at least why I use them. I guess the reason on the top of the list is that they work. They work better than conventional wheel weights, too.
They do that for a number of reasons. The science involved always has them exactly where they need to be to keep your tire perfectly balanced. Even on the first mile, you're not relying on the skill of the mechanic or the quality and accuracy of the machine he used. Beyond that, as your tires wear, your balance needs will change. Your wheel weights neither change nor move (unless they fall off, which is another issue) so then you have a need to rebalance your tires as they wear. Dyna Beads rebalance every revolution of your tire through it's life so there's never need to rebalance.
If your tires are balanced properly, you'll experience extended tire wear. With what we pay for tires, that's a big item to most of us. Beyond that, not only do we experience longer tire wear, but a better ride throughout the life of our tires as well.
Conventional wheel weights (even the nicer chrome ones) do nothing to enhance the appearance of your bike. The best ones look like what they are - something added on that really doesn't belong there. Most wheel weights are nothing more than ugly chunks of lead that can fall off and may well damage your nice rims when they're used. If there wasn't an alternative method of tire balancing, maybe the ugly wheel weights could be justified as 'function over form.' In this case, however, you've got ugly wheel weights doing a worse job than a better looking alternative. That hardly makes any sense at all.
Another plus with Dyna Beads is that if you do your own tire changes you can use these to do your own balancing without spending another dime on equipment or for keeping a variety of lead weights around. You simply dump the contents of a pre-measured bag into your tire during the mounting process and your tire is balanced. It takes all of about a minute to do this extra step while you're mounting a tire. If you have tires already mounted and want to add Dyna Beads, that's no problem, either. There's a little applicator bottle and tube that allows you to add them through the valve stem.
I have a VTX1800 Retro and a GL1800 Goldwing as my two primary rides. For some reason, Honda decided that a 100 pound heavier bike like the Goldwing would be better served with a front tire two full sizes smaller than my VTX. Stories of front tire cupping and premature wear are so common with the Wing it's just come to be expected. With Dyna Beads I've eliminated that problem. To be fair, I'm almost overly attentive to tire pressure with that bike (as we all should be with any bike) so I don't have problems from improper inflation to compound or confuse the issue.
We've all seen front tires cup and we've all heard manufacturers' claims that it's improper inflation. While that can be a cause, so can improper balancing. You can eliminate that with these and eliminate the need to rebalance after the tire is worn (which, I'll freely admit, I NEVER did).
As to the money involved, at least in my area, these are cheaper than conventional balancing. Depending on your tire sizes. even at retail, the Dyna Beads you'll need for both of your tires are well under fifteen dollars (usually closer to ten dollars) total. I discount them to riders here so they're even cheaper yet.
If anyone has any other questions or would like more information, please feel free to email me at'

and I'll be more than happy to do what I can to helpl

From Dynabeads website:
http://www.innovativebalancing.com/Pictures.htm
This racing Kart is owned by Tom Stevens, and in this photo he is doing 90 mph!
He used 1/2 ounce in all tires. The fronts are 10 X 4.50 -5 and the rears are 11 X 7.10 -5.

Thanks, Bobby.
I'm pretty sure we can help you out with about any application. I've used them in my semi tractors, trailers, trucks, SUV's and motorcycles with great results. I have one customer who even uses them in his airplane tires.
Just send me an email to;

and I'll do my best to get you the answers you need.
Take care and ride safely,
