Muntz has been hurt!!!!
Just to let you guys know......Muntz was suppose to come over and we go riding today after church and I got a phone call from him and he was helping his neighbors cut some trees down and was trimming some small limbs off some downed trees and the chain saw cut his leg. He was in the emergency room waiting on stitches. It could have been bad, the Doc said he was lucky it didn't get an artery.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
WOW!!!!! He is lucky if it is just a flesh/meat wound. Chain saws are a dangerous and often underestimated tool. Anyone using them needs to understand the question is not IF you will get hurt by them but how bad. If one ever gets into the bone kiss that limb goodbye. There is no saving it due to the severity and fragmentation of bone along with infection risk. Sorry didn't mean to hyjack the thread but wanted to put out a PSA.
Here's to Marks full recovery.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
Sorry to hear about Muntz. I know how that feels. Back in the late 70s I took 6 stitches in my left knee from a chain saw. Anyway we will keep you in our prayers, hope you have a speedy recovery.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
Well first let me say thanks for the prayers.
I started using that damed chain saw just like any other saw. I put it against the tree and furiously went at it. After about 5 mins I had barely made a dent in it. So I take a little breather and go back at it again. Well about 5 mins later my neighbor comes up and pulls this handle on the side. Wow what a racket that thing made. That little trick made all the difference in the world.
I had been outside working on my own project when I see several of the neighbors getting together to help an elderly nighbor take down 2 huge trees. I felt like I should go help. All the other guys took off as soon as the trunk was cut up and loaded on a trailer. I stayed to help cut up the smaller stuff and load it. Anywho I was chopping limbs, then I choped a different kind of limb.
It went in at an angle just below the knee and just missed my shin. Kinda fillet style. The Doctor said I just missed a major blood vessel and a nerve. Its a little over an inch deep and hurts like hell. I almost lost this same leg when I was 18. I got a bad infection which led to gangreene of the bone. I told the Doc in the ER this along with the reason why it happened. Guess what, he treated the damn thing just as the other previous screw up doctor had. I'm diabetic and he didnt put me on an antibiotic, or give me anything for pain. I told them what I expected and how the wound should be cleaned, but nooooooooooo. A guy with 3 semeters of nursing school can't tell a doctor nuthin. If I get an infection, Im getting a lawyer.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
I think I'd call your regular doctor and get him to prescribe both antibiotics and pain meds. Staph is rampant right now, especially in hospital settings. I can't believe they didn't clean it out better. Chain saws are dirty.

I guess I'm trying to get all the bad stuff out of the way so that way I can enjoy the rest of the year. Either that or I'm just snakebit.
Oh yeah...did that before too.
I know I'll feel better tonight after LSU whips up on Ohio.

LSU may be the favorite but, as everyone has seen, this is one crazy college football season. I look forward to seeing you eat those words.
By the way, I hope your leg heals up well.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
Hate your year is starting off so rocky. Gotta get better, huh? Like Motorcyclereb I had a similar experience with a chain saw many, many years ago. Mine wasn't nearly so bad and even got out with no stitches (cause I was too young and hard headed to see a Dr.). Hope you heal quickly and are back up to full steam in no time. Prayers sent your way.

Mom is an RN. She changed my bandages and did not like the way the wound looked. I see my doctor today at 2pm.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
The leg is infected. Doc put me on a new antibiotic that cost me 140.00 AFTER my insurance paid 70.00.
Small price to pay to keep me out of surgery, but its still no guarantee.

Re: Muntz has been hurt!!!!
These chaps are about 50 bucks, I don't do anything with the saws without them. Seen too many little "bumps" with the saws turn real ugly real quick, they get awful colorful too. As wild as I am I still deck out with chaps gloves glasses earplugs and hardhat with the face shield when using the saws. Them things are dangerous. Unlike the mc with a car tire
Not meant to be a dig at all Mark just a public service announcement.
