SUCCESS on seating a tire on a 1990 Honda VT1100C!!
I just thought I'd write on the newly created forum.
I successfully seated my tire today (For reference, I seated a Kuhmo 165/80/15). I used a combination of soap, wheel bearing grease, and 100 psi. I think it was the scariest thing I've done on that bike yet.

Texastim,
Now you are on the the down hill side and headed toward the darkside wisdom. You are going to love it. After you get a couple hundred miles on it...come back and give us the "whatya' think" on the car tire.
We got a lot of good guys over here that like to help people.
Be careful, you liable to start something with the 1100 guys. If you can get them pass the thought of it and let them watch you put miles and miles on it. They will jump on the darkside.
Good luck.

ps.....tell them who helped you.

Re: SUCCESS on seating a tire on a 1990 Honda VT1100C!!
I met another 1100 guy from England who is doing it. He said he loves it and will put another on.
I have already started waves in my circle. My best friend, a V-Star 1100 guy is starting to look into doing this to his ride. His rear tire has spokes though, so we're not sure. He was just as excited as I was that I got my tire seated. If there's a way to do it to a V-Star, I'm sure he'll find it. (With a referral to this web-site ... of course).
Thanks for the good words Bobby. I'll keep you posted.

Texastim,
Well, if your friends are excited about the car tire thing.....just wait till you see what our guys with spokes are doing!!!!!! Wayne sealed his own rims, very cheaply too! 100% successfully too. Some guys are using the tubes from their rear tires and putting the darksides on with them.
Check this thread out.... https://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com/1300-tech-f11/sealing-rims-t68.htm
Enjoy.................bobby

There is a way to seal those spoke wheels. I can't remember where it is but if your interested I could try and find it.

So I got the tire balanced, and it took 2 oz. I saw a lot of people that said they didn't need any extra weight. The guy also told me that there is a really mild flat spot on it, but that I'll probably not notice it. Tomorrow morning I spend a little time on the bike, and then I'll ride. The suspense is killing me. DAMN "Honey-Do" LIST!!! If it weren't for that, I'd be on the road already.

Re: SUCCESS on seating a tire on a 1990 Honda VT1100C!!
I'm trying to find out if anyone knows where I can have a cage tire mounted on my '07 1100 Spirit? I can get the tire easy enough but I don't feel comfortable mounting and ballancing it myself. I'm pretty sure the local MC dealers won't touch it. I'm due for a new tire and the Dark Side appears the best way to go. Also I'm looking at either the 175/80R15 or the 175/70R15, which one is most used and recommended on a 1100 Spirit?

Being pretty sure they wont touch it is a long way from knowing they wont. Can't hurt to call around. Most have had better luck at the smaller shops or even custom shops. I do have a dealer locally that will do it here.
Good luck and welcome

Re: SUCCESS on seating a tire on a 1990 Honda VT1100C!!
I had to seat it myself, but I found a shop to take the old tire off, put the new tire on, and balance it after I seated it. It was pretty scary seating it though!!!
I know a guy on another forum that uses the 175/70/15. He said it lowered the bike about a half inch. It will look pretty cool too, because it is a bit wider. I would've gone that route, but I ride on dirt a whole lot, so I didn't want it lowered any more.
Call around and see if you can find a shop that will take the PSI's up to 90-100. You don't have to advertise that it is a car tire on a motorcycle. Just ask if they would seat a tire that requires 80-100 psi's to seat it. Most won't, but you may be able to find some guy somewhere.
BTW ... I LOVE the way my bike handles! Shadow's are better on the darkside!!!

There is a trick to getting someone to mount it for you....tell them it's a drag bike and pay them cash and you don't want a receipt that way they take NO responsibilities. Make sure they balace it for you too. Be sure you follow the cooking oil trick and go up the side walls real good.
Let us know how it comes out. Texastim is right...Shadows love darksides.....
