1300 to 1800 finals
Swaping out final drive with RydeHyde. Here are some pics of the Process.
Just removed my final
My final out and on the floor.
RydeHyde's final prepped, taped and ready for primer.
Beauty ring with primer.
Beauty ring painted
Final with primer.
Final with high gloss black paint.
Final back on. Total time was about 3 hours.
I now have about 150 miles on her and I will have to get a speedo-healer for her as I am now somewhere around 15% off on my speedometer.
As for performance, OOOHBOOY she will deffinatly get up and go. Seat of the pants dyno says a very nice increase in both power and torq.
I haven't tried the triple digits yet as not the right time or place, but don't think I will have much trouble getting to them as she will still do 70 in second gear.
RydeHyde I hope this works as good for you as it has for me. Thanks for trusting me , my final will be in the mail shortly.

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
I have the 1800 final in my 13, and Im guessing topend on them would be somewhere around 110. Hell I dont need to go any faster than that, or I dont care about going any faster than that.

I havent noticed any diff. in my gas mileage with the 1800 final. I still have my 13 final, I will probley put it in if I head out on another 3 to 5k trip, which we are planning this summer.

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
does anyone with an 1800 final have a tach as well? I was wondering what your RPM's are at 85mph? I had thought of the swap, but I do several thousand miles a year at 85+ MPH going to and from classes I teach all over the state so... Maybe this mod ain't for me.
Still curious though.

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
Stupid Question Time!
What does a different 'FINAL' Drive unit do for the bike?? Example: putting an 1800 final on a 1300 OR a 1300 final on an 1100 ???
My enquiring mind wants to know..
Please list benefits, etc...

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
It's the same thing as the differential in your car/truck whatever. They have different ring and pinion gear ratios so you're just changing the final drive ratio. It's like on a chain driven bike you can go to different size sprokets to change the drive ratio, same thing only with gear driven bikes you have to change out the gears themselves and there are no aftermarket gear sets so you have to get creative.
Make sense??

Basically for the "rear drive challenged"........hehehehe Putting a 1300 drive on a 1800 gives it longer legs in other words makes the 1800 go down the road with lower rpm's. They have a lot of power already, so putting the 1300 drive on allows them to put some extra speed behind them or give them basically like an overdrive like performance!
Putting a 1800 drive on a 1300 gives it a performance enhancement the other way! It will give it more bottom end and out the hole up to about 90 mph it's a lot quicker to get there also, but the rpm's are up! You don't want to cruise there on the highway! But if you want to beat up on some guys who are un-expecting a 1300 to have that kind of "git up and go" withOUT doing engine work, this will get something real cheap! That's my take on it!
...........bobby
ps....I don't think it will go on a 1100! I am not sure, but I don't think it's a direct bolt up for you guys!

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
David: We could probably go to a Sabre rear end to give us more low end speed. Not for me though. I like my cruising speed.......you probably do too!

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
I don't do burnouts anymore so the way I play is to run fast when I want to. Besides I have the smallest bike out of the crowd that I ride with and they try to rag me some untill I shut them down. I have a friend with a 1600 Road Star that I want to just blow away. None of them know I have done this so they wont expect the difference it has made.

Re: 1300 to 1800 finals
Probably wont happen untill Myrtle Beach Bike Week, that's in May. I know he will be out then as we are going there together. His line of work doesn't let him ride as much as mine does. He is one of those that thinks bigger is better.
