This weekend saw me riding 2up with a full winter camping complement. This was 65 lbs. of gear on board, plus 13 lbs. jackets, helmets and stuff.
The gear:

This put the bike with us on it at 1192 lbs. or, 32 lbs. over GVWR. Deb, gear, me = 445 lbs. I had that sucker on the floorboards more than once, even riding with a slow group, because it sits about 1" lower loaded. Tire didn't even get warm!
But I did! The crashbar chaps work fantastically, keeping engine heats on da feets!

The hands stayed warm despite 43 degree riding due to the hand shields I make:

I wore ski gloves for the light weight and that was sufficient.
Best camp trip ever, except for,
a.) a DOG barking all night
b.) TRAIN horns blaring somewhere
c.) GEESE fighting on the lake in the AM hours.
Next time, pack the dang earplugs! Anyway, I may be a while before having to wire up the heated coat and gloves; pants and boots won't be needed.
The next problem will be the face, since I don't like anything in front of it. Baklava works pretty well though.

I shoulda mentioned that if anyone is on the market for a new sleeping bag and pad, check out the Big Agnes line, also sponsored thru REI and will carry their guarantee and return policies. Those don't use any padding underneath; it's all on top, over the zipper and have neck wraps. Underneath is a big pocket you slide your pad into that insulates you from the cold ground.
I like that they figured out you don't need all that, so a 20 degree bag crams into a pretty small stuff sack; even the synthetic, which I have.
Even better is the down model. All much cheaper than the REI gear too, but just as good, IMO.
