Ready to make the move Empty Ready to make the move

Post  team5150 Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:52 pm

I have an 05 1800 and I have been convinced going to a CT is the way to go.

I have read a lot of the info on the rear run flats and my one remaining question is - what is the difference (advantage) between installing a 195 as opposed to a 205 ?

Thanks !

Tom

The 195 will feel more like a MT. The 205 looks cooler and has more meat on the street. There is slight diferences with the handeling but not a issue. Most say that after about 10 minutes you cant tell the diference. I say go with the 205.

Good luck and blessings

If you dont have a monitoring system I would stay away from the run flats.

Is it harder to mount the 205 on the 1800 ?

Why stay away from the run flats ?

I believe a lot of people believe you need TPMS with a runflat because with the stiff sidewall you may not be able to tell if the tire is low or flat. I disagree. I normally run 32 PSI. Last summer while riding at 65 MPH the bike felt a little squishy in the corners. I pulled over and found a nail in the tire. The pressure was 28 PSI. I rode it another 4 miles and got the tire plugged. I have also let all the air out and rode just to get a feel of a flat. You can definitely tell the difference.

It shouldn't be hard to mount a 205, but the run flats can get you in trouble. There are a report of the only failures we have ever seen was on a wing with a run flat that wasn't noticed in time when it had lost pressure and it melted the side wall at the edge of the tread and came completely apart. Very scary stuff. Side walls are so stiff and if you are riding straight for long periods this could happen. Plus the run flats kinda defeat the one of the great advantages of the darkside. The softer ride and the run flats ride rougher than standard tires. JMO
