Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
the box is just there to hold the fairing up for a picture, I wanted a visual before I started doin anything major, so I stripped the headlight off and "held it up" to see
It's not mounted yet, I'm gonna be working on a couple plates to use to mount it up that will connect to the stock bracket for it
and yup! I'm plannin on keepin the apes for now. They are a little out of the ordinary with fairings, but I like 'em for now.

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
I only got the outside shell as I didn't want any of the hardly goodies.
I only got it for winter riding.
Havent decided whether to mount it to the handlebars or make a frame mount yet,
so I'm curious to you how you hook yours up.

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
well, my method will be different then whatever you come up with then! The stock mount for the roadglide fairing mounts the failing inner to the bike and the outter fairing screws to the inner one... Here's the stock harley mount with the extension and attachment plates I made to mount it...

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
well, it was obvious that the Harley neck was narrower, so I had to tweak the bracket arm out a little before I made the extensions. But with a little (well a lot of time, adjusting and vodka) I got it mounted with what I think is a fairly solid mount. On to the side mounts and wiring and finding a black waterproof marine radio and speakers and relocating the driving lights and turn signals and.......
the best part is the other 1/2 thinks it's for her! (Well, it partially is, but I like havin her with me) The other 1/2 was trying to do something that is out of the ordinary. Like the Harley air shock experiment. Yup, they will work, but the only HD part that was on my bike was also the only part that leaked stuff.... I figure this one ought to have a hard time leaking!

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
Can you take some pics of the then inner side? That is bad ass man. I like the fixed fairing. Have you taken it out for a spin yet? I know its cold up there in yankee territory but I need to know. Great job with the install. Looks like it came that way.

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
no spin, the highest it's gotten in the last few days is single digits and there's been snow on the ground for a week... besides, I still gotta make the lower mounts for it to stabilize it.... Here's some more pictures for you.

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
Great job man.
I realized that your "fab" work would be different than mine (on my rocket)
but thats what I needed to know.
Exactly "how" you were gonna mount it.
From the looks of the pics, you had to drill and tap your frame for the mounts to hook up.
Is this a correct assumption?
I couldn't decide IF I wanted to go that route, or just bolt it onto the handlebars.
Yours looks real good.

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
yeah, I tapped one hole that was already there, and drilled and tapped a second one on each side.... I'm interested to see what you come up with. Especially if you go for the fork mount!

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
Thanks Nodak.
That is going to be sweet when done. One more question tho. Are you going to put gauges in the holes and which ones?
Stay warm

Re: Start on winter project, whatcha think?
finally got to take it for a test ride today. Works really good, nice and steady all the way up throug 75mph!
I really dug the fact that the Harley headlight plug worked on the Honda receptacle!
now I gotta work on a radio and speakers and wiring up some gauges!

That's a GREAT job.
I think the bracket you made is the best way to go with the ridged fairing.
