Re: My new GYTT 205/60/16
ok, so do the shocks make that much difference? I cut an inch off my shocks and still have just under a 1/4 inch space between the tire and shaft, that's with a 205 55 16. And I'm assuming my 03 retro and her 05 N are the same frame and components.
Now i feel guilty for introducing her to the DS, guess I'll have to help get her going again...
thanks for all the help DS'ers!

RE MY NEW GYTT 205-60-16
What brand tire are you running? Actual tire size can vary greatly from one manufacturer to the next .Can't answer your question on shocks ,haven't really messed with them but don't really see how they could affect shaft clearence.

Re: My new GYTT 205/60/16
i can't see how it would either. don't seem to matter how low the shocks are, the axle and shaft should stay the same.
I'm running a Hankook tire. when i installed it, i had to force it past the shaft, then it opened up and there was room. I'm betting the mechanic didn't really want to put it on and that was his out.
We'll get it on, she lives almost 100 miles from me, just got to get time to go there, but i bet i can get it on there....

Re: My new GYTT 205/60/16
Dont think the shock would be an issue as far as shaft clearence. The issue would be with the finder braces under the finder.
Now Im not saying Im perfect but I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong.
Peace and hope you get it figgured out.

RE GYTT WON'T FIT
Go to tire rack .com find your exact tire I think exact measurements will be under specifications. compare the two.spud1800r wrote:i can't see how it would either. don't seem to matter how low the shocks are, the axle and shaft should stay the same.

Re: My new GYTT 205/60/16
Welcome Aboard Ladies Deb, I can't believe they took the final drive off instead of simply deflating tire
Some take the dust ring off (1 bolt) if they don't have a compressor, I've never heard of anyone pulling the whole FD.
All 205's run close to the left side swingarm (driveshaft tube) but most will never rub, the tire is widest when stopped, it only gets narrower when spinning, so as long as you have the slightest clearance at rest, you're golden.
According to the Goodyear TT specs, the 205/55/16 and 205/60/16 will be exactly the same width when mounted on the stock 5.00"x 16" VTX 1800 wheel, the 60 is a little taller, that's the only difference, has no effect on side clearance.

Thanks for the welcome Dan!! Still in disbelief about the whole thing. Hubby asked if they had a problem or weren't interested in puttting a CT on a bike. They said they didn't have a problem with it. I suppose we should have asked if they had experience. lol After I recover from the repair order bill, for "attempting" to install it, I'll be okay Ha ha. I appreciate the advice you have given, we will use it when we install the tire next week. (thanks Craig). The reason I went with the 55 as opposed to the 60 was for just that reason.. the height.
Will post up pictures WHEN it's installed.
Thanks again for all the the responses,
Deb

Deb, I'll be over Wed. after work and it WILL go on...
WH, when you said you could slip a cc between the shaft and tire, I guessed that was a credit card, is that what you meant? So it is that close huh?
thanks, Craig

Re: My new GYTT 205/60/16
Actually the credit card unit of measure that Larry was using is a good way to see if it will work .
With the raised letters a credit card is just under 1/8" .
If you have you have that CC gap then you are good to go .
Mine was rubbing so i did a little more dish then I needed to but I got a hair over 1/4" gap.
Now DAN did a small dish and got a CC gap to fit his 215 tire in his 1800 swingarm.
