How well do the C/T handle the twisties in the wet?
Hi guys just a quick question, I used the search feature but was unable to find the solution.
How well do the C/T's handle the corners/twisties in the wet?
I ride aggressively and this is a question that has been nagging me in the back of my mind.
Appreciate any help.
Cheers
Doc.

100% better than a mc tire.
You still have to be carefull, I have had a mc tire break loose on me in a turn, scared the $heet out of me, but I have never had the ct break loose.

Had it slide out on me once because of locking it up in the rain. Would have been down on a mt but I got off the brake and it straightened right up and jumped behind me where it belonged. I'll take a ct any time in any situation, with my cruiser.

Yep! Bwwhahahaha I had to have a cone hammer also riding the mt! Hated the motorcycle tire in the dry and in the wet...it scared me to death! The car tire....NOT ONE TIME! Of course I feel safer in the wet, twisties and panic stops! That's what sold me on the car tire the first time I got caught in the rain!

Because a lot of you have posted about your like of the CT, what type of wear are you seeing on the edge as you near to 8000-10000 mark. Are there any out there that can report on this?

I got over 5000 and no ware so far , hardly looks like it has been used yet.
My factory Dungcrap tire didn't last much over 5000 .
I know this is a cheap Korean made $44. tire and i already got my money out of it
and it is just starting to roll.
I like to do it myself so tire change and balance , removal and install , all save time and money.

Dapper, I have wore out 2 darkside tires, the first a khumo powerstar wore out at 11k, the second a toyo proxxes tpt4 wore out at 17k, both tires wore out pretty evenly across the tread line. with a slight more wear in the center of the tire. Maybe a 1/32 inch. or so.
Dont let the insurance BSers hold you back from the darkside. There have been plenty of claims made on the darkside and it is a non isssue.
See you out there

Agree. No special wear pattern....worn a bit more in the middle. Edges still curved..maybe a tad more than when I put it on. I'll take a picture of it when I change it this summer. My kumho had no special wear pattern when I pulled it off last year.

Re: How well do the C/T handle the twisties in the wet?
Ok thanks for the replies guys. Now another question.........how many R3 riders can make the same replies though?
Reason I am asking is that on both the 109 and the R3 we're running 240+ size tyres and that gives us a rather squared off edge.
Comments form R3 riders............
Cheers

we used to say " R2" or R-squared (removed and replaced) in the aircraft forms .
in the civilian world it is an "I certify" statement.

Re: How well do the C/T handle the twisties in the wet?
I have the Federal 595 225/45-17, on my Warrior. It is pretty square. I have approx 3,000 miles on it so far. In the begining it felt weird. Around corners I could feel it rise on the edge. Now the edges have worn down, and i love it. I have never lost traction in the rain. I live in Florida, and get rained on every day in the summer. The bike is only 1 year old, and I went through 3 mc tires in that year. I dont think that I will ever go back.

Downunder we call the Rocket III an R3 or it means R**ting, Resting-N-Riding, but for this question I was more inclined to go with the former rather than the latter.
Thanks Bossman, don't suppose you have a picture of the amount of wear on the edge do you?
Cheers

I'll try to get a pic tomorrow (Sunday) of both tread and edges for you. I have just over 7,000 on mine. I can tell you that it still looks new and this after riding in the ROT Rally parade this past weekend and doing about 10 burnouts. It was an adrenaline rush. I smoked the tired in second gear and left about a 50' mark on the road, right in front of a traffic cop. This is the only time you can get away with something like that.

Alright, here are the pics. One day late, but hey......
Here is one of the right edge. I'm leaning both ways everyday on my way to and from work so both sides are wearing the same
This is the left edge...
Then I wiped the debris off the tire for this last show, so it looks a lot cleaner. :-)
As you can see after 7,000+ miles you can hardly tell that it is used. There is still a lot of meat left on this tire. Again, I've hit the twisties pretty hard (peg scraping and all), ridden in the wet, pouring rain, fog, wind, heat, etc. This tire sticks like glue.
