Dunlop Wintersport ROF rear tire or other good rear tire for GL1500
New member here. Have '95 GL1500SE sidecar rig [w/California Friendship III on 24/7 for 12+ years]. Have Austone rear tire now, which is coming off rim this week. My problem: Had approx. 300 overall rpm drop in engine/drivetrain w/Austone. Since wife/yours truly are NOT lightweights, this made starting off from stop lights very hard on Wing AND had to drive way too much in 4th gear, could not shift into o/d until 45 mph, to avoid lugging engine. VERDICT: NEED smaller circumference dark side rear tire to RAISE engine rpms.
Heard that Wintersport ROF is no longer manufactured in size [160/80-16] to fit GL1500 rear rim. If ANYONE knows where I might locate a pair of them [to have spare tire] PLEASE let me know!
If this is not possible, am open to suggestions on any other good rear tire choices, as long as they will RAISE my GL1500's drivetrain rpms. THANK YOU ALL in advance on any advice/info! TTFN. .....papasmurf37 in NH

Can you fit a 185/55-16?
185/55-16 has a height of 24.1 compared to 26.9 for the Austone

THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Beginning to lose hope I'd hear from anyone! Should have looked into the dark side years ago, when many more tire options were available.
Does ANYONE know what overall height of Goodyear Assurance tire is? Measured Austone yesterday, when finally removed wheel. Was 26.6" high, w/42 psi; just under 2k miles use, since installed last August [Austone up for sale...$100 plus shipping from NH...PM me if anyone interested].
On tire option you posted: Have NO info on this size...first time I ever saw this tire size posted. Will try to learn more and THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my inquiry! TTFN.....Old Tom aka papasmurf in NH

I can't resist the force, Crossing over
I've decided on darkside, thinking of trying a 195 55 16 on my 2000 GL1500. I've read all the threads. No one is talking bout RPMs, speedo offset and fuel milage. I know I'm a newbee here so go ahead and hammer me now. Also I'm open to any suggestions on tire brand and sizes. Thanks

To the Board!
I'm using a 195/55/16 on my GL1800 and my speedometer is dead on with my GPS.
It is essentially the same size as the stock Bridgestone. No change in RPM's or fuel mileage either.
Lots of Goldwingers really like the Michelin Alpin PA3, it's a run flat winter tire and works great year round!
