Darkside going on this weekend
The Turanza is supposed to be in today....hope to put it on tonite or tomorrow morning. Have questions about some posts on this site (or others) recommending either putting a tube in the tire or "sealing" the tire to the rim? Why would you put a tube in a tubeless tire (question #1) and why would you "seal" the tire to the rim with "sealant" (question #2). Guess I was thinkin in simple terms by removing old tire....mounting Turanza.....adding beads for balancing......remounting wheel/tire.......and going for a ride? Will be mounting on an '05 Nomad......any advice?

You are running posts together. They are talking about spoked rims only. You have to either run a tube or seal the rims where the spokes attach to them, they are not sealing tire to rim. Welcome to the forum .It just gets better from here.

Re: Darkside going on this weekend
duh......thanks.........
Also been reading up on dynabeads. Plan is to put 3 oz of beads in the tire before seating bead. After reading their website we are also removing a wheel weight. Any other bits of advice are appreciated!

You can install the beads that way but you may loose some in the mounting process, also be careful getting them in contact with your lubricant while it is wet, could cause them to clump together thus rendering them useless. Most I think install the beads through the valve stem after mounting is complete and some time has elapsed allowing lube to dry. That is how I did mine.

Re: Darkside going on this weekend
That is what I thought but the dynabead website recommends putting the beads in before seating bead as the Nomad has a 90 degree valve stem. Thanks for the responses

Mine also has the 90degree stems.I hooked up hose and tapped on stem while feeding beads, worked pretty good.

Re: Darkside going on this weekend
After a long night I was on the road at 6:30 to a friends to start the change. We started taking off the wheel at 7 and by 7:40 were on the road to bike shop to have the new tire mounted. Tire was mounted by 8:30 and we were headed back to his house to reinstall. Started reassembly by 9 and the Turanza was on bike by 9:40. Sweet................................ Went on a lunch ride of 140 miles (temp here 98) and took turns swapping bikes. The extra countersteer in order to initiate a turn is evident......but neither of us were uneasy with the way the Nomad is riding. Will start playing with air pressure this week....currently at 36#.
PS - Recommend you go to your farmer friends house for change and use an overhead winch to pick up bike. After taking off bags we lifted the bike with straps tied to bag safety bars and that worked well! Tied off front brake to hold her steady and raised and lowered at will!
Thanks again for all your tips!!

Awesome report Fudd. Great job. THe winching the rear end up is a great idea. I winch up on the handbars to hold the bike upright, then I use a floor jack to lift the rear.
