2004 Deuce with 17" wheel
I've currently got a Dunlop SE 180/60R17 on the rear wheel of my '04 Deuce. It appears as if there is 15/32" clearance on the belt side and 3/4" on the exhaust side. I wonder if anybody has a tire size recommendation for me? I used the sizing guide, but it wasn't terribly helpful, nor were any of the tire websites I found, most of which want you to give all the measurements of the tire, requiring you to go through many iterations of trying out various combinations.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 2004 Deuce with 17" wheel
Here are some possibilities:
185 width tire:

It's got a bigger diameter but the Deuce has plenty of room in the well, I wonder if it being narrower would make it so it won't seat on the wheel properly?
Also it's symmetrical, but omni-directional.
edit: Also it appears that it is currently unavailable. Great.
205 width tire:

The 205 is .98 inches wider than my current tire, which would put it 1/32 onto my belt guard, except I've read that car tires tend to run thinner on a M/C wheel. However, all other 205 tires, whether they are 50 or 55 aspect ratio, all say either 5.5 inch minimum wheel width or 6, and mine is 4.5 inches in width.
I'm tempted to try the 185 first, since the minimum recommended rim width matches the width of my Deuce's rear wheel. Too bad it's apparently a phantom tire that doesn't actually exist (it's not listed on Dunlop's website either).
Really, my main question is whether or not one of these tires will fit on a rim narrower than is recommended.
Any thoughts?

You're asking someone to stick their neck out, but yeah, it's done. My 175 is on a 3-1/2" rim.

Re: 2004 Deuce with 17" wheel
I ordered this tire and it's to arrive on Monday, but looking again at the location of the belt and just how close the tire is to it, I would be surprised as heck if it fit.
So, my options are a Metzeler Marathon MT, or to sell the ($800 MSRP) 17" wheel on the deuce, and get a 16" wheel of some sort. I'm not sure if there are any out there that could fit it... would any old 16" Softail wheel do? There's the Vredestein @ 16" it seems...
