New to Site
Hello, I am new to this site, I am wearing out the original tire on my new Stratoliner and plan to replace the rear with a Darkside tire. Prolly a General Altimax 215/60R17HP but am still looking at all the facts. I am also looking into what front tire to use and wandering if I need to go to a DS for the front.

re new to site
I personally see no down fall to wider front tire only good points.Road cracks, lines will not have the negative effect like they do with a narrow tire.My goldwing had a narrow front tire and my nomad has wide tire from factory, makes for a much more relaxed feeling when you see these lines in the roads.

Re: New to Site
Thanks Larry, I was thinking I would need the rear tire a few K before the front. I have seen that some folks use a rear MC tire on the front and others use a car tire. Any thoughts about this?

Re: New to Site
The only people I know that would use a ct on the front are a few trike owners.
Double darkside refers to a rear mt on the front and a ct on the rear. Thats the setup I'm running now and it"s working good for me.

Re: New to Site
Thanks, wasn't sure about that, I hear some talk about reversing the direction of the rear tire when they put it on the front, would you recommend this?

I personally would go with marked rotation for water dispersal it has been debated though .Some beleive you might get seperation from heavy braking, not a problem for me as I am old school and only touch front brake in emergency.

Re: New to Site
There are also tire out there that are universal. They will work front or rear. Those are mounted with the arrows correctly. The belt seperation issue has been taslked about quite a bit here. I originally thought anti rotation would be the way to go, but now think the only way to put that much pressure on the belts would be to do a rear wheel wheelie, and I don't see that ever happening with my bike.

Re: New to Site
A wider front tire does affect cornering dynamics, very much more so than the rear tire. If you aggressively ride the twisties, than a wider CT on the front will be detrimental and require more handlebar input to corner. This can come into play when you're riding a long, very twisty road, as it's more tiring and could result in not maintaining good concentration on the road.

Welcome to our site! The darkside is definitely the way to go!

Re: New to Site
I couldn't imagine riding like I ride, going where I go, with a CT on the FRONT! But a little wider I don't think would hurt. The Bridgestone rear I have on the front (S-11) is awesome in the twisties, even loaded with campgear and 2up. It's the same size as stock, so I don't think another 10mm would bother it.
I just don't know if I could fit it in the fender, so I didnt' go there.

Thanks
Thanks to all y'all for the insight, I would like to go to front tire that doesn't change the handling much but would give me more tread life. But I may get plenty of miles out of the one I have, I have 6K on it and is still looking good to go.

Re: New to Site
I put a Michelin Pilot Activ rear on the front of my Liner when I picked up a nail in the OEM Bridgestone. Seems to grip quite a bit better. Had planned on making both changes (front and rear) at the same time, but it didn't work out that way. I will be mounting a Gen. Evertrec on the rear in a couple weeks. 215/60-17. Looking forward to it, as I rode a friend's bike last week that had the same setup and it felt great. Would love to get up to North Ga. to do some mountain riding. Right now I'm stuck in Middle Ga., down in Byron.

Well come on up and join us any time Bill, we still ride year round. Do you ride with any RC? I have been with the Southern Cruisers for 5 years and we ride a lot.

Re: New to Site
I have done some rides with the Macon group, but haven't joined. Would love to come up that way for a weekend, but it might be a couple months into the new year before I can turn loose at work. Will let you know when I am heading up that way and maybe we can get together. Thanks

I'm with SCRC North Atlanta Chapter 183. Also ride with the Alpharetta RoadRunners a lot, and recently made a run with a mostly black RC from the East Side, Atlanta Cruisers. Y'all have a chapter listed as North Georgia, don't you?
