2009 harley electra glide standard
well it seems to be the general opinion of everyone in the forum that finding a CT that will clear the belt and fit the rim has presented a challenge. I have a 2009 Harley Electra Glide the tire is a 180/65R-16 is there anyone with an idea of how to find a CT that might actually work since Harley went to a wider fender, tire and wheel?
Thanks in advance.

You could look for a 185. Or maybe a 195 if you have the clearance.

what to measure for clearances?
So i understand that clearance is the main thing but clearance from what the fender or belt? and is a motorcycle tire that is 180 wide the same width as a CT that is 180 wide? because basically if the measurments are the same I would have to find a 185 tire as I have very little clearance on each side at the fender. maybe like .5 inches at most i think without actually measuring it.

Re: 2009 harley electra glide standard
If you have a half inch clearance on each side that is 25.4 mm added to your 180 tire or another way to look at it a 205 would have about a playing cards clearance from the fender. Pretty tight. You might want to go with the 195. That would give you about a 1/4" on each side. Thats plenty, or more than what I have between my tire and swing arm.
You are right 180 is 180 wether its a ct or mt. You will notice all mt end in a 0 and all ct and in a 5. Dont know why the manufactures did that other than not confusing themselves.

185/75/16
That's what I'm running. Mine is a Continental Vanco 8 and is much superior to the Federal I was running.
There is always the Vredestein I hear good things about it.

You're lucky I guess - mine is an '05 Heritage with a 150/16. So far, not continental, Michelin, Pirelli, Kuhmo or Vredestein have mine. I think I'll do Wayne's clay trick and get a max measurement. That should open up the playing field a bit.

Cornflour, when I bought my 1st CT I didn't compare, I simply bought the cheapest one, since
by that time it was more a joke for me and to check it out.
When I bought my 2nd which is still my present CT, I was more critical and I was surprised
with the differences between several tires which supposed to be of the same size.
There are differences in height, width and regading the rounding of the edges of the tire.
By the way, I have a clearance of about 3 mm.
Goodluck.

Re: 2009 harley electra glide standard
I think the darkside is coming.
Just ordered a Bridgestone 195/60-16
I found out that a guy with an 09 road king put a 195/60-16 on his bike without any mods thanks to harley redesigning the frame and making the wheel(RIM) a 16X5
They also stiffened or strenghtened the swingarm some. From my measurements I will have about 1/4 of an inch clearance still for the 195
Found an installer that is a Bike shop also so they are going to mount and balance so I don't have to use dynabeads.
now if I can just make this dunlap MC last a few more miles until that one comes in and I can get it mounted.
I haver to go darkside as I can't afford 250 to 300 dollars every 3 to 4 months for a MC tyre
I am putting alot of faith in those who have gone before and really think I am going to be pleasently suprised at how much I will like it.

Just remember to take it easy the first couple hundred miles, to scuff it up and or wear off any mold release that may be there.
Jerry
P.S. For me the Dynabeads were a want not a have to. I like the idea of the tire being balanced for it's life.

Looking forward to pics
I hope this works out for you. I can then let people know on other forums that it can be done and which tire works. Pics would be great too!!
Yes. Dyna Beads extend the life of the tire so if you're going for maximum mileage you might consider using them.

That tire looks good in that fender. Any trouble mounting it?
