brick and mortar tire stores
I posted this on my first post but was missed. here is the paste:
Another tire question anyone: Why is the Altimax general, which is about 65 bucks online then shipping cost, better than tires at the brick and mortar shops, like Sun Tire that has performance tire, same size, for 40 bucks. 40k mileage warranty? Altimax has 55k warranty but is that the main difference in price? I called them and they said it is a cooper.

I haven't had a cooper on a motorcycle yet but have had several on cages and they are good tires in my opinion

I don't have a good answer for you. But my nephew Moon would say that the best made tires have the higher speed rating. I'm gonna look for a Z rated tire next time.

Re: brick and mortar tire stores
Two things come to mind for tires on a bike for me.
1. I feel more comfortable knowing that the rubber compound is stickier on the speed rated tires. Better bite and grip.
2. There is some truth about "You get what you pay for". Granted that there are good low cost tires out there but that is always in the back of my mind and I dont have a lot of space for thinkin like that. Not a lot of space in there any way.
I know lots of people that run cheap tires on their vehicles and have had good service outta them but tires to me are something that I put a high value on. Dont get me wrong I do value a good buy, prolly more than most but I dont skimp on quality either. I also wont recommend a cheap tire that I know nothing about either.
I wish you the best and let us know how it goes for ya.
Ride safe.

Re: brick and mortar tire stores
UTOG, speed rating, mfg, and volume will all determine the price.
Discount tire explains the UTOG and Speed ratings.

Several of us have had a lot of luck with the cheaper tires. Kumho and General tires come to mind. I tried a higher end tire that just wouldn't seat, which is why I'm on the Altimax now.
If you DO try a new tire, be sure to post your experiences here.
