New Darksider
Just ordered the Kumho 165/80/15 for my 2001 VLX. I have been a "lurker" to the site for awhile. You all convinced me. Called my local cycle guy and he told me he has already mounted a ct on a VTX. Said that the guy learned about it on some "dark side internet thing." I go 5'11", 230lbs. Would about 40 lbs, pressure be a good starting place? Can't wait to get started!

Senior moment would be rearranging two other appointments yesterday to make a meeting today, and then forgetting today's meeting.

Re: New Darksider
Welcome to the dark side.
40 psi is a good pressure to start off at. That's about what I used on my kumho and I was 205 at the time. Adjust by a few pounds over the first 500 miles till you find the psi you like.
No worries about the double post (we're an odd lot aren't we?)

Re: New Darksider
Just got the tire tonight. I knew it would be a little thinner than the stock 170/80/15, but didn't realize how much thinner. Will this affect my speedometer? (I know it shouldn't) And will it look better on the cycle? (I know it should) Somebody help reassure a newbie? By the way, love the dual posts, laughed my arse off.

RE NEW DARKSIDER
The width won't affect the speedo the height will. Most on here opt for wider than stock tires ,that part is just personal choice on the look. You should still reap the bennefits of better traction and handling also better mileage out of the tire.RIDE SAFE Larry S.

Re: New Darksider
Looks like I'm late to the party. Welcome!
You're gonna love that tire. It's a great one!
DO the VLX's read the speedo off the back tire? My VT1100C uses the front.

Re: New Darksider
Tire height would affect speedo IF it reads the back tire. But 165 vs 170 will be negligible. You should be good. That's a great tire for that bike. Let us know how you like it.

Will do! Hoping to get it on this week. For some reason the wife seems to want more help at home with new twin girls. Talk about selfish!

Re: New Darksider
Not yet! Dropped it off yesterday, waiting to hear from the shop. I can't hardly stand the wait. Anything I should prepare for on the ride home? Any differences in the ride?

re new darksider
Watch out for uneven road surfaces on mine if I go above 35 psi the CT tries to road walk all over the place.Yours may not but be ready and it won't be a problem if it does.It will require a little more effort to lean into a curve but that is a good thing once you get used to it.Just start out cautious until you get the feel for it ,then it is all good.

Brought it home tonight! 36 PSI and she rides like a champ. Smooth down the highway. I think a love affair with the Darkside is born.

Rough roads can be tricky, but once you know what to expect its all good. You realize no pics means it hasn't happened?
