fuel tank removal on the VTX1300
This is for the VTX 1300 motorcycle only
Some people want to remove there fuel tank on the VTX 1300 so you can do maintenance.
here is a step by step and photos that can help you , I hope.
remove seat ( there are different seats , most have 3 bolts , one 10mm nut in the back-center ,
and two 6mm hex drive bolts , one on ether side rear of drivers seat.
turn off the fuel supply valve (A)
remove vent line (B) ( It's actually a vacuum line going to the fuel pump on the back of the shutoff valve )
disconnect fuel supply line (C) some fuel will drip out.
remove bolt rear of tank and remove the sleeve inside the rubber under the tank,
disconnect vent line on aft right side under the tank
carefully disconnect the two wires inside the rubber boot on the front right side under the tank.
place a towel over the bench or shelf that you are going to store your tank wile you are working on your bike.
slowly lift up on the rear of the tank about 2-3inches and carefully pull back to clear the front tabs, then lift off
the bike and set on the towel.
to install , in reverse order.

Great write up Horse. Let me add this important piece, make sure that all hoses are secure after putting them back on the petcock. I had one vibrate loose and the bike would not start. This was after a 25 mile ride to work too.

One more tidbit of info. It's not a bad idea when you have you tank off to check the tightness of the three little screws on the back of the petcock. It will make your gas mileage suck....ask Smokey!

good points both of you, thanks for the input and anyone else with a helpful tip while the tank is off here is a good place to add it,
Mine is an 06 1300C , it has 4 screws on the back of the shutoff valve , it's the cover plate to the fuel pump.
thanks again guys
