Listing of most common or preferred car tires for stock VTX 1300?
Is there a list here somewhere of the most common or preferred car tires for stock VTX 1300?
Which tires are a good choice and which to stay away from.

The Grabber is the most poplar and I think the best looking. We have other with the Goodyear Triple Tread that look good also and of course the non-directional tire like the Douglas.
Stay away from tires and sizes that are un-tried because you can get into a problem with beading the tire or not the correct ride height! Good luck with your decision and keep us posted.

tires beginning with G seem to be popular, ( grabber, general, goodyearTT,,,,,,,,)
stay away from the tires beginning with W, ( worn , wobbly, wack , wasted,,,,,,,)
the rest of the alphabet has yet to be explored all the way,.

Re: Listing of most common or preferred car tires for stock VTX 1300?
Well I have seen a couple of tires that are listed. The "Grabber" or "Triple Tread" but one thing I haven't seen are mileages. I've seen car tires listed at 60,000 miles however I am seeing them getting only 13000 to 15000 on motorcycles. That seems off somehow. Do the car tires simply get worn out a lot faster on a bike than a car? Are the mileage estimates given by the tire makers simply exaggerated? I guess I am looking for hard data rather than testimonials. A listing of the various tires that have been used and the mileage associated with each. Maybe a survey could be created here from all the people running car tires so a database of information could be created and updated. Mileage listed by the tire maker versus actual mileage recorded by the biker. Curvature of the sidewall to tread to see how square or rounded a tire is (perhaps behaving more like a bike tire than others) Price range, handling on curves and/or rain., radial versus non-radial, etc., etc. , etc.
Seems like a lot data could be recorded by the various folks running these tires to make quite a storehouse of information to benefit riders considering going to a car tire. I know it would help me a great deal.

I am running on general grabber uhp 205/70/15 and it's over 5K now on it and still looks just like day I put it on. Brand new.
The tech guy from the shop they put it on couldn't believe it that I run over 5K and it's still brand new tire.
How many will I get it from the tire, well, it's to early to tell, but will keep you posted.

When I started looking at going darkside, I saw a near continuous stream of users who were using Michelin HydroEdge. I just went darkside so I can not tell you about mileage yet.

I changed my last tire for looks and width. tire wasn't even nearly worn with 12,000 miles on it. Could have kept it for at least another 12,000 and that was a cheap tire. That said, I don't think you'll get the milage you get with a car, one because you don't rotate every 5-7000 miles like you do with the car. But, even if I get 20,000, that's still a heck of a lot better on a mt don't ya think? And, not to offend anyone above I think the Goodyear Triple tred is the BEST looking tire out there.

I did a lot of reading about going dark before I tried it. Only got about 120 miles on it so far so I hav'nt exactly made up my mind yet. I took it through some small twisties this morning and I'm going to try and ride the beach road tonight. I have the Triple Tred and just have to say when I walk out and look at it I can't help but smile and say COOOOOOOOL! The best part was my daughter saying it looked like the Bat Bike from "Batman Begins". I did'nt even tell her what I had done to the bike and she noticed. A good friend of mine has an 1800 and after seeing my tire is probably going to put the TripleTred on his this week. They all look good but I really like that TripleTred.
Kermit, is your tire mounted on your stock rim?

I'm looking at going darkside on my next tire change. I've got about 7000 on the stock dunlops, so I figure in the next 2-3000 miles. Anyway, looking to see what most are using on the R's. I'm thinking about either the Hydroedges or the Goodyear TT in a 205/65R15. Any suggestions?

I am running the Douglas Xtrac 205/65/15 on my 1300 R. I have just about 21,000 on it and it still looks good. My sugestion would be to try some thing that has been tried and is working for your first tire. There are some good choices out there. Also keep in mind that the 70 series usually has a little narrower bead width and will seat easier if you are doing it yourself. Look around the site and make a good informed choice. We are all here to help.

I'm riding a Nexen tire that should get on a car 45,000 miles , but if you figure about half is what you get on the bike .
My stock dunny got about 6,000 miles before I changed it, but I don't let any tire get bald ,
next time i change tires , I'll do the foots mod and go with a 225 tire.
