Officially a Darksider.
After spending a week running around and getting tools and tire and running into beading issue, I finally am a Darksider. I tried and tried to seat the beads like more then 5 times. One time, I even took it to Tires Plus and they couldn't do it or really make any effort. I took it to a small tire shop and he doesn't want to try that much psi on it. I burrowed my brother's air compressor and set it to 130 PSI and do it over and over for 5 tries. The bead won't seat all the way. I was very dishearten and disappointed.
I went through and read tips in here about greasing all the way and using using the air-locking thing to pump the air, so I headed to Autozone to try one last time. A worker that worked there started talking to me and I mentioned my issue. He gave me advice and also said that he can do it for me for 15 dollar. So I took his number down and told him that I'll give it a few more try and will contact him if it doesn't work. Well....the latter.
I took the tire to him and left it with him. Went home and pounder and pounder and feeling disappointed. After 5 hours, he called and told me....that it was on, after I almost went ahead and order the Kuhmo. I was a happy camper. I told him before I gave him the tire that if he can seat that bead, I'll even pay him 30 buck. That was a gladly spent 30 buck for me.
His trick: Grease or soap the hell out of the tire. Keep on letting air in and out....in and out...until it finally pop. He told me it took him only 15 min. Maybe I was almost there when I was doing it....
Anywayz....here is the official photos:

OH...one tip from me: Don't put the dyna beads in while you are trying to seat the beads. It gets messy and gets in the way of everything....including the beads and metal rims. I even took the tire out and cleaned and vacuum the heck out of it and put it back before trying my last attempt at beading it.

Re: Officially a Darksider.
That is the Barum that you recommended Steve O. Nice tire. Yeah, I got her to fire today for a little waking up from winter slumber. Man, the tire feels soft and cushy....should be nice on the back. Can't wait to put some miles on it.

Re: Officially a Darksider.
Awesome Job!!!
What shadow do you have? I've got 9K on my current kuhmo, and I think I've probably got another 3K on the tire. That tire you got looks BADASS! I'm gonna have to go with that one too!
Did you try using vegetable oil like others here did?
And Steve O or Pheonix, what exactly is this tire? Gotta start shopping!!
Great job Pheonix and thanks for the write up. Always good to read what other people went through. I hadn't ever though of just airing it up and down repeatedly. Great idea.

Re: Officially a Darksider.
Texas Tim,
That is the Barum Barium 205/65/15 rated V tire that I got from Discount tire. Well, I din't have a strong enough compressor of some sort, cause I can only get it up to 80 PSI....trying with Windex, and dish soap. I think I almost got it...but I gave it to a guy at Autozone to do it for 15 buck, but i TOLD him that if he can seat that bead....I'll even give him 30. He did...took him 15 min. He told me that he seat the beads so that the part that is going to pop needs to be left or right near the pump tube. He put air in, let it out....back and forth until it pop the beads. I think you will need at least 100 PSI plus to do it. I was very very happy that he did it. I was going to be a very disappointed darkside failure... .
Can't wait to try it.....

Re: Officially a Darksider.
Thanks Pheonix. I'm sure I'll be seating mine myself. Wait ... now that I think of it ... I don't think I will. I think I'm gonna take a ride to Ennis and have a couple of friends help me. What do you think SteveO and David? It has been a long time since we got together. Even though David is a wing darkie, I still like him the same.
Great work PHeonix. Welcome to the club.

Re: Officially a Darksider.
I'd get together whenever for whatever reason.....I'm that lonely.... ;-)
What tire you going to get Tim? Another Kumho? Great tire!
The Barum looks like a great tire and comes in 185 and 195 widths. Might have to order it and bring it to Ennis though. I think David was needing a new tire soon anyways. Maybe we can have a tire change day down there.....getting to be bluebonnet season - and Ennis is the bluebonnet capitol of the universe, so might be a good excuse for a ride as well....

Re: Officially a Darksider.
Nice Steve-O,
Sounds like we need to plan that activity! I'm going to go with that Barnum tire in the 205 size. I'll have to start looking at where I can order it from. I'll also have to order more dynabeads since I just gave my friend what I had for my tire.
Let's plan this shin dig! Anyone else could come too if they wanted to see how it's done.

Re: Officially a Darksider.
It will be good to see you David. I still haven't seen your goldwing yet. And technically, the 3 of us have never gone on a serious ride (heading around 635 does not count).
I've been pretty busy with horses actually. I've been training my belgian to pull a wagon. That basically cut into my forum time. I'm pretty much done though, so I hope to be back more often.
SteveO and I may be putting on the same tire!
Great to hear from you David. We gotta have a get together where we install some tires and go for a ride in your neck of the woods. I need to do it before I have my surgery and can't ride for at least 90 days.

Re: Officially a Darksider.
I'll be down toward Ennis in April when the bluebonnets are in full bloom...... I'll let you two know when I'm going. It will be weather and time dependent. Planning a hill country ride in May.

Did either of you end up doing the Iron Butt rides?
Let me know when you go Steve-O, I haven't been on a good ride in a long long time.

Yes,
I did Two over the Holidays..
Two SS1000's. first one was about 18.5 hours and the second was about 17.5 hours.
I thought I had posted it here somewhere. Guess not.
Let me know when you two are ready to get new tires and then ready to ride down my neck of the woods as well.
