bought a 2000 honda shadow 1100 spirit feb 22 of 08. inthe 2 months i have owned it have riden just a little over 2000 miles. i bought it to ride! the rear tire is a 170 80 15 inch. i have read lots of the post about using a car tire ,,,,,,me thinks its for me. i live near tyler tx so that will be the first place to try to find the appropiate tire,,,,, but dallas is on about 2hrs away if i dont have any luck here. my question is which tire is the easiest to get to seat on the motorcycle rim? i am not sure if anyone around here will mount the tire so may have to seek help in doing this myself so if there is a tire that is by far easier mounting that is the one i want to try first. thanks for all the the great info the treadwear markers are almost gone so i will need to try to repalce the tire next friday ,,, its payday lol

adrian,

I posted in your title it's a 1100, so the guys with the experience of the 1100's will give you their opinions. I hope you don't mind.

The 165 or the 205 should give the desired results you want. Both have been run and loved. So get educated and ask all the questions you need to make the best decision. They will tell you what brands they are running, because not every 205 will fit!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the site and dang glad to have you sir!

I have a 165 Kumho on my X. Twin used to have one on his. I think some of the Shadows are running it. Heres a little thing I put together. Its seperated by bikes.

There are three of us VT1100Cs on this forum. All of us have had success mounting tires. And "have I got a deal for you"!

Darkside Shadow gave me his Kumho 165. I'm riding it now because we could not get my 205 to seat. We're thinking that the hot weather coming up will increas our chances of it seating next time. I'd be happy to meet you in Ennis at David's house. He has all the tire changing equipment and such.

What we'll do is remove my tire, put on my 205. After we get it on, you can have the Kumho 165 for free. We'll install it and balance it.

We had planned on doing this in June/July/Aug if you can wait that long.

Cost will be gas out there and we'll pitch in an buy David a nice power tools of some sort..... Of course, we need David's approval.

Welcome to the dark side. I recently rode from Dallas to Kansas and back on my CT. No problems.

Yep the Kumho tire is a good one. I abused the hell out of one for 11,000 miles. I do not use the word abuse lightly Wink

It is a good one.

See you out there

Dismount your rear and take it in to them. Tell them its for a DRAG bike. Tell them you'll pay cash and dont need a reciept. Also get you some Dyna beads.

Welcome welcome!

I have the Kuhmo 165/80-15 on my 1990 VT1100C Shadow. I absolutely love it! I live near Greenville which is kinda close to you. I seated my tire myself, as did David and Steve-O. With this tire, you won't notice much difference when riding. It is a great tire to start on.

For more information, check out our tech folder on this site. We've all shared our stories, and put tips there. The 3 of us are even getting together next wednesday night for a ride & some dinner in Dallas. You'd be more then welcome to come if you wanted to. You could compare your current tire to ours.

If you have any questions, let me know. Between the 3 of us darkshadow riders, we've got your answers. (and if we don't, we'll ask the VTX guys for help) LOL
