Switching to the Darkside with questions

I own a 92 Harley Ultra Classic with an Ultra sidecar and I go through rear Dunlop MC tires like I have fat pockets. My tire size is a d402 MU85 b16 77h. How do I convert that into a car tire? I'm a bit lost here, and really tired of wasting $$$ on a MC tire that cannot even get me across the country 1 way... any information would help and would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it will work.

You'll have to look on the side of your tire and find the size and plug it into the chart.

That's a Harley tire - I don't have a clue what the 402 means. You could just measure it.

The tire on the back of my bike is a 195-85-15

That means that it is 195mm wide.

The 85 means the sidewall height is 85% of the tread width.

The 15 is the rim size.

So, if your tire is 6" wide, has a 4" sidewall on a 15" tire, you would convert it like:

6*25.4 - (4/6)*100 - 15 = 152.4 - 67 - 15, then find the closest tire. Something like a 155 - 70 - 15.

Post your actual numbers and we'll work through it.

This is the tire size since I had to look it up. 140/90 r16. and that is a tight fit. For some reason I'm having problems figuring out going larger or smaller on the width of the tire.

Happy to help. The width of the tire is just the first number. Yours is 140mm - which is about 5.5". The sidewall height is 5.5 x .90 = 4.95"

So, your overall wheel diameter is 4.95+4.95+16 =25.9"

You are going to have trouble finding a more narrow tire without going to a smaller overall diameter - unless you could find something like a 130/100 r 16 or maybe a 125/100 r16

But, I don't know if either of those tire sizes exist for cars. I have seen 130/100 r16 motorcycle tires, though.

which I'm guessing that it means:
5.00+5.00+16=26
but I'm not exactly sure, so I'm going to call on this tire...
Would you think a tube tire would be worth the hassle?

Your tire is a 140/85/16. I just installed a Goodyear Assurance 175/60/16 on my buddys 99 Electric Glide , last Saturday. We had to space his wheel pulley out with washers under the holes at each bolt, but it worked just fine. We only needed about  1/8" to clear. He has over 300 miles on it now and loves it. The Dunlop SP5000 is supposed to be the best tire for your application, but they cost 157.00, and he did want to spend that much. We had Walmart install the tire on the wheel,for 10.00, cheap
!!!!
