You do the math!

Post papa smurf Today at 2:24 pm
First off let me say that this is not intended to try and talk anyone into going to the Dark Side. All weights were performed on my own bike an 08 Honda GL1800 Goldwing Audo,Comfort,Nav. The bike full of gas ready to ride weights 920# with me and my wife and all of our luggage and riding gear (all the gear all of the time) the total weight comes out to 1,425#. Now the interesting parts. The weight on the front wheel was 542# while the weight on the rear wheel was 883#. Now the scary part the Stock front tire a Dunlop D255 130/70/18 is rated for max. load of 600# (ok close) while the Stock rear Dunlop D250 180/60/16 is rated for max. load of 827# (look out) Now the common replacement tire used on a Wing is the Dunlop Elite 3. The front in a 130/70/18 max load of still 600# (close but still ok) While the rear in a 180/60/16 has a max load of 992# (that's better but close). Now for the real fun part an Avon AM26 Roadrider 150/60/18 REAR mounted on the front (yes it will fit close but it fits) has a max load of 739# (now were talking) While a Michelin Primacy Alpine PA3 in a 195/55/16 has a max load of 1,201#. Guys who pull a trailer pay att. here. All other factors put aside which way would you like to go (think about your passenger). Again this is not intended and try and talk anyone into anything use your own best judgement these are figures on weight only. I know what way I went (I love my wife). Trust God and ride Happy!

I had the same thoughts for my Harley, and I don't even like my wife much! (jk!)

I'm going to have to assume they are applicable in the tire design world as well? Shrug

Hi nodakbassmaster,
coincidentally, your own avatar is a pefect analog. If showing her nipples is equated to a tire blowout, zipper full up shows a good safety factor and as the zipper goes down the safety factor lessens.
