Cluncker Math.
Clunker Math:
Think of it this way:
A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year.
So the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by
320 gallons per year.
They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.
That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.
More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars.
So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million per year.
We spent $8.57 for every dollar saved.
I'm pretty sure they will do a great job with health care though.

Re: Cluncker Math.
You got it Moon....
But dont forget most of the clunkers traded in were paid for. So we know have 100's of thousands of people with new cars that can't actually afford the payments. I almost forgot, during the program the dealers raised the price to sujested retail and a month after the cash for clunkers program car prices dropped by more than that. Worked out good....for the loan companys.

Ha ha! good point. And that's not even mentioning the forclosures on car loans we will see down the road because of the cash for clunker handout.

Re: Cluncker Math.
Can you imagine the used cars and trucks that will be available at bank auctions here in a couple of years.

And seeminly sane people trust government healthcare takeover, not seeing the desire for control of the people.(votes)
