GoldWing Tires Empty GoldWing Tires

Post  PAW58 Sat Oct 22, 2011 1:44 pm

I'm new to this, but I'm going to try the darkside. I purchased a General G-max AS-03 195/55R16SL. I really like the tread design. Does anyone have a problem with this tire. Plus I always use Dyna beads in the tires. My Goldwing is a 08. Ride on!!! Very Happy

Congrats
That is an awesome looking tread pattern.
The G-Max has a soft sidewall so you will probably want about 40-42 psi in it.

GoldWing Tires Empty Car Tires

Post  youncedl Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:02 pm

I'm new here and wondering what the pro's and con's are to putting a car tire on the rear? What tires are most recommended and why?
Thank you in advance.

Dave, first welcome to the forum.
That is a loaded question ... ok both questions are loaded. The pros are, better traction, longer life, smoother ride, and you can get a run flat for that extra added security.

Cons, it generally takes just a touch more counter steer to dig through the twisties. The biggest con people have is getting it out of their head that they are on a car tire and not trusting it.

I have about 70K on car tires and routinely drag the pegs and occasionally the hard parts on my scoot. Trust the tire.

Most folks will get between 20-30 K out of a car tire, I never get more than 15k.

The tire you choose is totally up to you, I recommend something in the 195-55-16 run flat catagory.

If you have not found it, here is a link to a great forum and a lot of darkside information specific to the wing http://gl1800riders.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=31

The general forum rocks too. www.gl1800riders.com

Good luck

See you out there

Dave, try the Michelin Alpin Primacy PA3 ZP. Alot of GL1800 riders are using this tire and are very pleased with it. It is a RF too! I have 14k plus on it, all in the hills of NC and TN except for about 3K miles which was on slab. Very smooth and quiet tire.

How are you liking that General tire? I also have been looking at this tire but can not get any feed back on it... Surprised

GoldWing Tires Empty GoldWing Front & Rear Tire

Post  PAW58 Tue Apr 17, 2012 10:56 am

Update: Front Tire: Bridgestone Battlax BT-45, 130/70-18 M/C 63H
Rear Tire: General G-Max A/S, 195/55R16SL
I love both these tires. Email me for online vendor links. Both tires $215.00 +/- $5.00 plus installation.
The front is a little harder and you need to reverse the rotation.
The rear psi is like Dave said 40psi. Very smooth ride.
I have not changed my riding habits for these tire at all.
You just have to trust them!!!!
Hip, Hip for the Darkside!!!!

GoldWing Tires Empty General Tire

Post  johnnie1 Thu Apr 19, 2012 6:03 pm

I have just put the General tire on you are asking about have about 2,500 miles on it and so far I am very happy with it, no problems putting on or mounting. I like the ride and the handling of the bike is excellent, the only difference I feel is it feels a little less responsive at say 20 to 25 mph. Handles curves great. I think you will like it the only reason I am trying a CT is I am tired of buying MT every 7 to 8,000 miles. I did keep my old MT in case I have to take it in for any warranty issues. Ride Safe and enjoy. \
