Its on now. I am going to do it.
I will be ready for a new tire in about a month or two. I am choosing to go to the car tire. I have some questions to be answered. I have a 1800F.
1. What is the widest tire I can use with out chopping my bike to bits. I dont mind a little grinding here and there, I am just not ready to take a saws-all to it.
2. I would like to fix the speedo issue if at all possible. about 3 to 5 mph shy of being spot on.
3. Which tire is recommended? I like sticky.
4. I only got 4300 miles out of the stock tire. This sucks. How much more can I expect to get out of a CT.
5. As stated above. I have worn out the left and right side of the stock tire I like the twisties. And I go in kinda hard. I need confirmation that the CT can do the twisties. I did see a Goldwing on the draggon with a CT. (You-tube) That was awsome but I would like to hear if from yall.

Thanks so much
Moon

Someone else will have to tell ya about your vtx, but i rode the dragon on my wing with a car tire and we flew through it[ ran it very hard ] with another wing, don't think I will ever put a m/t on my bike again unless they stop making c/t's.....I have over 22,000 miles on my wing with a c/t and i get about 13.000 miles out of it but i an very hard on the tire plus the bike is pretty heavy. I think the weight of your bike will affect your mileage some...

Thanks for the reply. Not so much worried about the mileage. My biggest concern is running on the edges of the car tire.
Here is another ???
How much pressure are you running in these tires? Hmmmmmm Inquireing Minds Want To Know.

See yall got me to thinking. The wife says eveytime I start thinking it costs us $1,000.00 bucks. Now I'm in trouble.

Badmoon,

We usually suggests what the manufacture suggests to run in their specific tire you mount. Or...within 5 lbs. Most start high and go down to get what feels best, but what the manufacture of the tire suggests on the sidewall is usually spot on. So far that I have found.

You will find on here that this is always our recommendation.

205 is about the widest you can comfortably run because of the clearance on the swing arm and drive shaft. It looks bigger than it really is. It looks phat!

If you are like some of us...smokey, toasted, titaniumwing, me, and some others....about 13,000 to 20,000 miles you should get out of a Darkside. WE RIDE HARD EVERY CHANCE WE GET!

Discussion on Toyo for F model...

Phucking computers... I'm in a hurry and I just typed up a whole paragraph about this for you and it dumped the whole d@mn thing for me...

OK, quick overview, I'll be back when I get home from work for more details.

There are 2 tires that I know of so far that will fit you 18" F rims, one is a Toyo TR1 that I am running and it's awesome, and sticks great. It has more traction than the bike does lean angle! The other is some race tire that is outrageously priced and I forgot about it. Like the SWSVending says in the thread above, you can't go over 8.3" wide across the face of the tire or it won't fit in the swing arm. I had to trim the tabs of the inner fender brace a tad for 2 up full suspension compression...

PSI approx 48 or so...

feel free to look around for another tire that will work, let me know if you find one! Love this Toyo though!

don't worry 'bout running on the sidewalls, the tire is flexing where the contact patch is. I drag my wing all the time and the sidewall shows no wear at all. As far as tire press. goes, I run the max. rating that the tire suggest and like it the best and my friend that just put his c/t on used the max on his and said it was fine... hope this helps. Believe me, there is no chicken strip at all on my front tire!

Ok here comes the imbarrasing part, but I gotta ask.
I am 6'2" and weigh in at 290. I normally ride one up but occasionally 2. I live in Louisiana and the roads are NOT smooth. Should I go with the 205 or the 215 tire. I am eyeballing the Toyo T1
Thanks.

Badmoon,

205 should be the ticket, I too am from Louisiana and the sidewall of a car tires are softer, so it takes up the bumps, ruts, pothole, cracks, tar snakes, and uneven roads like it's a Cadillac Broughm. You wont believe it...a M/T can't hang with a C/T in any kind of way....smoothness, handling, wet weather conditions, or grip! We couldn't have started a forum on a car tire if it didn't or wasn't the best.

if you can find one that will fit that 18" rim... that's a drawback to these cool rims, tires are harder to come by!

it looks like a 205/45/18 would be the closest size in a 205 and I can't find one in a quick search...

WOW! I knew the 1800 S had a different size rim on the rear, but I didn't know the F model had 18" rims on the rear. Impressive, of course I have never seen an F model on the road yet in 4 years of riding every day. I saw a Valkyrie with an F fender..... Very Happy Laughing Laughing Laughing Does that count??????

Badmoon,

I have been asking around and it looks like options for the darkside on a F are limited...extremely limited for an 18" rim. Sorry, it doesn't look good...but I will keep looking!

I said it looks....."limited" which means options are slim NOT zero! Other than Nodak's brand, I don't see any more to try or any one else recommends. Wink Very Happy

Twin.... ya gotta forgive them, as Smokey says...their inner 12 yr. old made them do it. I say watch out, as some 12 yr old get punished from riding their bikes. Twisted Evil

Oh yeah I forgot, some of them can't ride right now anyway. They don't have 60* and sunny Sunshine like we do. Their bikes are Sleep for the winter.

Now whos twisted??? Twisted Evil

Nodak,

We got a price on that Toyo 215/45/18 today.....and they are around $150 give a take a few. What did you pay!

I think badmoon is going to pull the triger on this darkside thing. We will meet supposedly Friday nite to eat with a bunch of darksiders and have him check us out!
