Mounting a tire Empty Mounting a tire

I am always wondering why a lot of us are having problems to have their tire mounted even if
this is done at a professional shop.
I have truly no idea what machines are used. On our small island they installed my 225
tire in about 10 seconds. Have no clue, maybe it's easier with a more outdated machine ? Wink
Anyway, I saw this link on the 1800 tech board, originally coming from a VTXOA board.
I've not seen any reaction from others who have also tried this manually and was just wondering.

I just mounted my first tire last week. Went and bought 2 tire irons from HF and a Lift. I wanted to do my on and they want 32.50 to mount it and you take the wheel to them. I enjoyed doing this and also added dina beads and everything is doing fine. later that night I was looking at the Kawa N ow web because I ride a nomad and seen this link on one of the How To's. It looks to easy but when i do my rear tire i think I will give it a try. I also would like to know if anyone has changed a tire this way. If the straps are just a dollar a piece you can't go wrong and could use them to tie the bike down or something !

If you have one of the problem rims, be sure to get a couple grits of sandpaper (I'd imagine starting with 120, and sand again with 400) then take some auto POLISH, *(not wax) and rub that in and wipe it off before putting your lube on it. Your tire will go on and come off easier, as well as it's replacement. 30 minutes well spent I think. Aluminum is so soft and easy to work with, there's no excuse trying to force a tight tire over a rough casting.

I wonder how difficult it is to get the last strap off the wheel/tire? It's a nice idea, I will be mounting a rear tire on the front of my Wing soon. If I can get the tire off the rim and if I can squeeze the beads together by hand, I might spring for straps and give it a try.

Mikeyger, I have a rear tire on the front of my 1500 Wing and also ran a rear tire on the front of my Nomad. The tires worked perfectly fine and wear very well.

Yes I tried tiewraps. Would have worked better if I'd had all the big HVAC type that wouldn't bust on me.
