195/65-16 on 1800 Goldwing?
I tried the search function with no results. I am trying to squeeze a 195/65-16 Vanco tire under my 1800 Wing. I don't think it's going to fit without modification of something under there. Has anyone put that size tire on their Goldwing? Was any modification required?

Sorry I can't help you, you could try this in the Goldwing section for more knowledgeable experience?

That tire should fit without any mods needed, I stuck a 205-60-16 under mine.

That sounds good. What year Goldwing do you have? Mine 08 has a radio amplifier under the rear fender and it looks like it might interfere with a large tire. The next time I attempt to put it on, I will deflate the tire first.

I have an 07, it also has the amp under the fender, while it was in the shop it went on pretty easy. The next day when I was wrestling it on my sears jack it was a total bitch to get up in there. I had to let the air out then and my son was holding the 900 pound behemoth up on the stand while I was shoving cussing the tire into place. Then all of a sudden I held my mouth just right and it slipped in place. It is definately more about the attack angles than anything else.
Good luck

Metalman, here is a link to a wing site that rocks. www.gl1800riders.com lots of good info there and they have a sub board for dark siders.

Re: 195/65-16 on 1800 Goldwing?
Thanks to all for the help with the tire. I got it on today. The jack I have is similar to the Sears jack, but I think it's a bit wider and therefore more stable (Goodyear, purchased in Sam's Club a few years ago). I deflated the tire and sprayed the inner fender and side of the tire with silicon. After getting the bike high enough to allow me to crawl under it and press the tire and wheel up and at an angle and into place, it wasn't too bad. I set the suspension at the highest setting and ran it for a couple or miles at slow speed. It rubbed a bit, but didn't seem too bad. Then I took it out on the highway and got it up to 50 mph. I could smell burned rubber and there was a blue haze behind me. After that ride, it only rubs when going over bumps or leaning on curves. Next, I'll wear it in with a passenger. I am running 35 psi.
The bike now leans over quite a bit more on the side stand.
I can only get the tire to spin on the center stand if I put a piece of 1/2 plywood under the center stand.
The speedometer is dead-on according to my GPSr.
The trailer hitch was a bit low with the OEM tire, so it should be about perfect with the car tire.
I have about 10,000 miles of experience with a car tire on my Nomad, so the peculiar cornering characteristics of the car tire are not new to me.

Fly, the rubbing is the inner plastic fender. I drilled a couple small holes in mine and tied it back with cable ties (zip strips) and raised the air pressure. Running 48psi now

Re: 195/65-16 on 1800 Goldwing?
Took it out with my wife today and as I figured, it rubbed for a while and eventually only when going over bumps. The sure feels groves and longitudinal lumps in the road. I even felt the raised painted yellow center lines. I never notice that effect on my Nomad with a CT. I found the Bridgestone on the Nomad worked best at about 35 PSI, but it wore more in the middle than the edges. Does increasing the pressure cause the profile to become rounder and more like a motorcycle tire? If so, I suppose is will negate the smoothness of a softer tire and also the added traction of the additional rubber on the road.

Lay bike on side
Might want to check out putting the bike on it's side to change the tire on a GL1800. There is a video on youtube of it being done and a lot of the GL riders swear by doing it.
I will be trying it next time I put the CT on my wing.

Yes, I saw the video, but I have highway pegs on my engine guard and didn't want to bother taking one off. I think you are right about it being easier to get the tire onto the lugs, since leaning the bike on its right side would tend to allow the wheel to fall into place.

Dude, you have too much pressure. I believe that's why you're feeling so much road irregularity.
Actually, I think you have WAY too much. Do the water test or shoe polish test and have someone follow you observing pressures until
you have half the tire on the road in the sweepers, and I'll bet you'll be in love with it.

Where in Illinois are you Challenger? The tire will go, may just need an extra nudge. I have to lift the bottom of mine to angle it in.
If you are close I will swing by and give you a hand 217-5 zero 8- 81 zero zero
See you out there

Lay the Wing over on it's crash bars and use some wax paper between the tire and the plastic. Give it a good shove and it will go in!challengerman wrote:Just wont slide in place cant get it by plastic covering wires on left side behind saddlbag even let all air out
