Welcome to the darkside. Remember to wear off any mold release before pushing to hard.

Newbie here, Double Dark side?

Post  RandyHutVTX on Sat Oct 23, 2010 7:27 am

Isn't the Roadrider an Avon Bike tire? Which makes it still a single darkside?

Yes it is, but it is a rear MT. Which is the"Double Darkside"
A rear CT and a front MT that is designed for the rear.

I'm going double darkside this weekend. Putting the Avon on the front. Surprisingly, not one local auto supply store sells tire spoons. Had to order them off the internet. Oh well...a guy can't have too many tools, right? Thanks for your help, Doc. Very Happy

By the way, I've read a lot of posts concerning the direction of the tire. My plan at this time is to install the tire with the indicated rotation. Any good arguments against installing it that way?

The thought is: Under extreme braking conditions you could break the belts with the tire in rotation to the arrows.
Would have to be pretty extreme in my mind. But that is the theroy.

Except that no one seems to have done it yet. I just put it on the regular direction: rears brake just like fronts and the front is carrying less load.
I got my spoons at Harbor Freight, cheap.

The one and only problem I've had with the S-11 Spitfire from Bridgestone on the front is that near fully stopped, it sometimes feels like my steering head is locking up. I'm thinking it's because of the lack of that center channel, but some other bike tires have a full tread in the center, and my head bearings were just lubed when I modified my shocks.
The only thing I think it could be is the tire. Well, no bother, it's only the last few feet of a stop anyway when it gets stiff, and only with the brake on. That's a VERY sticky tire, which is my reasoning.

Never heard of using a CT on the front. May have been done at some time, but not recommended. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions, too.

Ride safe.
