1500 rear tire
I'm trying to get info on putting a car tire on the rear of my GL 1500 SE .
Is it possible and what size tire do you use?

Re: 1500 rear tire
It is not only possible but I highly recomend it. I mounted a Federal 175/60/16 on my 93 wing and absolutely love it. All of the things that you read about both pro and con are true but I find the negative side effects to be quite subtle. After a 100 miles or so you forget that it is any different except for the incredibly smooth and quiet ride. Had a local friend mount the tire and acccording to him it went on with no problem.
The tire is a little tough to find but I got off the internet for around 80 dollars including shipping.

Re: 1500 rear tire
I will be going to a CT on my 98 Wing as soon as the Dunlop is worn out. I will be running a Vredestein 175/75/16. My concern with a CT is that they tend to have a smaller diameter and drop the rear end of the bike and cause it to run at higher RPMs at a given MPH. I'm hoping the relatively high profile 75% aspect tire will not be a problem.

I almost get tired of posting this thing: Not. http://www.barretire.com/calculator.htm
Put in your two sizes and it will tell you exactly what your correction will be. BTW, I have that tire on and absolutely love it!

the austone 175
Is a great tire and is just a bit higher then stock tires so sits higher and are rpm's are lower at 65 mine use to run close to 3,000 and now it runs at around 2750. Is quieter and the wife likes the ride better then the bike tire. Did have one problem, on the front of the rear fender there is a fender extension, and with me only on it, it was ok but with the wife and I it rubbed so took it off.

Re: 1500 rear tire
Just finnished a 7800 mile trip to Alaska in July , with the Austone on my 1500GL, Best move I ever made going DD with BTX up front. Load factor on the Austone is 1650lbs @36 psi you won't find that on any M/C tyre.
