I am putting a CT on my 800 and need some info. The stock tire is a 140/90x15 and the car tire I am putting on (trying to put on Mad) is a 145/80x15. The problem I have is the same problem most people on here have and that is getting the beads to pop. Right now I have 75 psi in it and was wondering how safe it is to put 100 psi in the mag wheel? I have broken it down twice and soaped it up to see if that would help but still no pop.

Not sure if it matters but where the bead won't pop is the same spot on both sides. Is there something I can do to change this? Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks in advance.

Soap it up (soap and water) and put the 75 psi in it and set it out in the sun, go inside for an hour , when you come back look and see if it has popped.
If not then put more soapy water on and add another 5 psi to make it 80 psi , go inside for another hour and check again.

what i did with mine was i put 80 psi in it and it popped and i checked it out and both sides were seated.
good luck

Thanks for the info, it is sitting out in the sun with 75 psi right now and I will check it in a little while to see if it has popped. If not I will try your advice and increase the psi and a hell-of-a lot of soapy water and try again. Smile

edit: 6 1/2 hrs later and still not popped. scratch

My 2nd update and things don't look good. I have had it setting out in the sun for 4 hrs with 100# of air and no pop. Sad I guess I will try the other (smaller 145/65x15) tire tomorrow and see what happens. If that don't work I guess it will be back to the M/C tire. Mad

Hi there VS800. I was reading your post and thought about different thing I have read on these forums. I think what I would try is a lot of vegetable oil. I have read that the oil if used in large quantities helps out. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info. I am going to try again tomorrow and will try the veggie oil. I do have a question, since I will be using the Dynabeads will the beads stick together if there is a little moisture or oil in the tire? Neutral

I have no idea if it will affect the beads.

you know that Twin used the vegi oil and it worked for him and he might know about the beads as well, you could PM him but he might be along any min.. don't give up yet there are others that have put the tire on the bike still on the stand and run the wheel up to a certain speed and they might be along soon too.
good luck.

Meet the newest Darkside member. I used the veggie oil and 100 lbs of air and both sides pop. Very Happy Now I wonder how that bead will hold with that oil on it. Question Hopefully when I get back I will be able to post a couple of pic. Smile

Edit: Back from a short ride and no real problems, except one.... the tire has spun on the rim. I had the yellow circle lined up with the valve stem and it is no longer lined up. confused Only took about a 5 mile trip around town. So what do I do now, break it down and wipe the oil off the bead and rim and hope it pops back on with the soapy water? I'm confused.

A couple of pics as promised.

I didn't use D-beads but from what i have heard they will balance the wheel anyway.
If it doesn't slip anymore then do nothing. If you are going to static balance then you need to break the bead on the tire and move the tire back to the valve stem and seat the bead and yes try it with soap and water now that you have it seated once then the next time should be easier.
The oil will get gummy after a few days so if you are going to balance with the D-beads then you should be good to go.
Check this out place the old tire out on the ground, rub some veggie oil on it and let it set for a day or two came back to it and feel the place you put the oil and it will feel gummy and sticky.

Good job and welcome to the Darkside, Nice pics too.

Just took the bike for another ride and really enjoyed it. When I got back home I checked the tire and it is where it is suppose to be. Surprised So I guess I was mistaken about it slipping the last time. I am one happy rider now. Just got to get me a better tool to remove the valve core with and put in the D-beads and I will be ready to break the tire in properly. Very Happy Thanks for all the help, you guys rock.

I'm glad it all worked out for ya. you'll enjoy the new tire even more once you get some more miles on it.
