Just joined the site and look forward to learning and talking with everyone. I was introduced to this site by my fellow members over at the VTX Cafe.

I have a VTX1300C and the wife rides a Shadow 600. After much thought and research I have decided that we will also go to the darkside. I would love to convert my bike now and start enjoying the benefits, unfortunately in this economic climate, our money is tight and we are only spending on needs for our bikes. That being said, the wifes Shadow has a need for a rear tire soon. I have searched this site and found that a 195/60/R15 will fit her bike but that most have put a 185/65/R15 on their Shadows. What I haven't been able to find is what type and size tube I will need in addition to the tire. Her Shadow has spoke rims so a tube is needed.

Thanks in advance for any information and insight you all can provide.

Welcome! Since that CT is close enough in size to the stock MC, you should be able to use the stock tube.

If I'm incorrect, someone will chime in soon.

Take care and ride safe!

Stock tube will work. Post VLX questions in the shadow forum and you will get more specific responses. Otis and others have done this very same thing and they are more than happy to share their experiences.

Otis started with the 165 I believe and is going wide in the near future if I recall.

Good luck, and welcome to the site!

BTW, saving money is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits of riding on the darkside.

Thanks for the replay Steve-O

Money is not the primary reason I have decided to take our bikes to the Darkside. It is primarily the improved traction adn handling. The low cost of the tires and the longer life are just icing.

Howdy Omar,

I would consider sealing her rims, but that might put her bike out of commision too long and she might decide to take my bike while hers is down No

she leaves for work before I do, I wouldn't have a chance.

That is easy take your wheel off too, or leave before she does. Gives you a chance to ride before work.
I was just thinkin, that if everyone rode to work, the world would be such a better place.
Just sayin.

good luck

Hello Horseman,
My intent is not to cause any problems. I thought I asked the question in 2 places, here and the Shadow section. The reason I posted the same question in the Shadow section is that one of the original replys to this thread suggested that I post Shadow specific questions in the Shadow section, so I did.

Not trying to clutter things up, just looking for info. As I get to know this forum better I will do better with the placement of my posts

No problem, some times it takes a few days for someone to replay to a question so if you wanted an answer just letting you know that there was one there for you .
and I just wanted to know if you saw this:
https://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com/vtx-1300-tech-f11/sealing-rims-t68.htm
it should get you in the right path, Smile
Good luck,
