First time posting here, I have been dropping in from time to time to keep check on things. I have an 06 VTX 1800 Neo that is about ready to go DS soon. Was wondering if there was a certain size tire I need to consider that may help me with the famous speedo problem these bikes have. If not then please give me some info on some other candidates for my bike. I know I need one that is rounded on the edge for cornering, as far as mounting my buddy at work bought a harbor freight tire mounting stand and I will take it to him to mount it for me, then use dyna beads for balancing.

I'm a virgin so any help is appreciated. Very Happy

A 205/65-16 puts the speedo closer to accurate, with stock gears, and the Michelin Hydrodge is a popular and well proven choice in the 205/65 series, no clearance mods required.

there's lots of Tx members on here and on the OA that have CT's... shouldn't be too hard to find one around you who will let you take it for a spin to try the tire out... Cool

I've been reading some of the posts and was wondering, is this something I can install myself? How much pressure does it take to "seat " the tire on the bead? Any info is appreciated.

CT's on the 1800 wheels usually seat at normal pressures, 30-40 psi. Some tires on the narrower 1300 wheels are a problem child when it comes to bead seating and require higher pressure. :bom:

+1...the 1800 tires bead so much easier, our 1300 require up to 100 psi in some cases.

REmember to ride it easy for a while to get the mold reliece off the tire. A good burn out can be dangerous too. Remember that thing sticks. I ride mine on a gravel road for about a mile and a mile back out. Still was a tad slick. Just ride easy for a while. The tire will tell you when it is ready. Weird I know but....

Ride safe and let us know what you think.

Done deal... I mounted my tire this evening, put in 2 oz dynabeads. Man that was tough LOL. Not used to working that hard,(using tire irons) like to never got the tire back in position, arms are wore out now. Shocked I know that sounds terrible but what can I say, getting old I guess ... Went for a little ride, takes a lil getting used to. Need to counter steer a lil more but I can get used to it. Will see what tomorrow brings.
I understand what your saying about "slick" Moon.... it is very slick, got kinda hairy leaving my neighborhood onto the asphalt. What a Face

Yes...Moon's correct about letting the mold release wear off! You are going to love the darkside. Congrats.

Just been riding back and forth to work on the new tire, getting used to it pretty much. One thing that gets me still is when I go through a dip in the road, the tire want so follow the direction the dip is going. That is something that I can get used to also in time, wished I had done this earlier. The ride is much smoother, a lot better traction, especially when leaving a light. I believe I got the turning down now.... time will tell. Thanks for the input, and will report back later with more info. Very Happy

Well... its been almost 2 weeks now, nearly 400 miles and still have not gone down in flames, or died in a firey crash due to a c/t being on the back of my bike. The poor harley riders at work are wishing they could do the same to their bikes and keep a lil coin in their pockets. Got the Valk rider to go DS too. Let him ride my bike to lunch one day and he was convinced.

It has been said several times, but I'll say it too..... I aint never going back to a m/c tire again. Well, accept the front. Laughing

Again... thanks for all the help!!! What a Face

You are so right about other riders. Either they love it or hate it. I have a bro that will not even sit on my bike saying it will not work and then complains to me when he cant hang in the turns with me. I do ride it harder in the turns when he is behind me I gotta say just to show him he is full of it.
Like you said I will not go back to a MT

Peace
