1300 rear tire Empty 1300 rear tire

Post  The Post Man Thu Feb 05, 2009 10:49 am

I have read of guys installing a 16r15 on a VTX 1300 rear wheel.

Can a 165/80/r15 be installed? How much difference in it versus the 165r15?

What tread design works best? What brand is recommended?

If this has been answered, please direct me to the thread or post.

Thanks!

Well that used to be the only tire we had an option for. Now the majority run the a 205/65/15 or 205/70/15 car tire. The 165/R/15 and the 165/80/15 are the same tire. It's also known as a metric tire. Still the same tire. With the 165 your options are limited to what someone has in stock and not whether you have a choice.

I ran the 165 tire and loved it, but it's a VW tire and not many left on the streets so they are getting harder to find. Try a VW magazine like HOT VW or something like that and look in the back and find a tire dealer for VW's should give you more options.

Now if you are not stuck on the 165, my suggestion is try the Grabber 205/70/15 or the Wallyworld tire, a Douglas 205/65/15.

So is there a clearance problem with the 205 70 15 versus the 165 80 15.
Which size gives the best ride? Which size has least effect on the odometer/speedometer?
Thanks for replies

NO...so far no clearance issues with the 205/70/15! Both tires fit the bike good, only the 205 really feels it out and makes it look awesome.

The 205 has the least effect on the speedo and a matter of fact makes it more accurate than before. The 165 is really a 1/4" shorter than the stock MC tire and makes you speedo a little more off.

Go with the 205..you will not be sorry!
