I ride a 2006 honda vlx, my current tire being run is 170/80/15, my concern is clearance between the tire (proposed 165/80/r15) and the chain, and the brake shaft and the tire. Thanks

Well sir...we don't guaranty anything! But according to the manufacture your 170/80/15 is 170mm's wide and the 165/80/15 is 165mm's wide! So that makes the darkside tire just a tad thinner than your motorcycle tire by 5 mm's! So, it should fit fine!

No indeed! As a matter of fact the car tire is lighter than your motorcycle tire by about 2 lbs...so you should have better acceleration and have better flick-a-bility in the turns! I know my 1300 accelerated quicker with the 165 on it!

I was looking at the Kumho, but have found a lack of availability, do you think the federal tire ss 657, size is same 165/80/15 would be ok? Also, what would be the recommended air presure, the bike mfg or the tire mfg or somewhere inbetween? Sorry for the numerous questions.

thanks,

mark f.

Mark,

It should be fine if it's the same size as the 165! I ran an off brand also and it was fantastic! I recommend 41 psi to start. Most 165's ended up around that air pressure or higher! Hey! Can't have too much data when you are making decision!

I'm not a big person,5'10", 150-160lbs, I ride a vlx 600, it is chain driven, I've ridden other larger bikes, the kaw 900, honda's vtx1300, but I like the styling of the vlx above the other cruisers, ideally for me would be a shaft driven 900 with the vlx body/frame/tank set up.

I will completely make it into the darkside on either monday afternoon or tuesday morning pending my shops schedule.

I am looking forward to joining your ranks. Will I be the only vlx rider here?
