Tire Clearance Issue????????????????????????????????????????????? Empty Tire Clearance Issue?????????????????????????????????????????????

Post  colopaddler Sat Aug 02, 2008 1:18 pm

OK, i finally got the car tire on my bike...it's a 2002 VTX 1800 Retro.
Car Tire is a Michelin Hydro Edge 205/65 R 16 Directional.

MY CONCERN: between the drive shaft and the side of the tire I have about 3/6 inch of cleance. I have 40 PSI of air pressure in the tire. I rode it for about 2 miles and did not notice any rub on the tire..I ride two up occasionally (not sure if that would increase the sidewall or not?

Is anyone else out there running this close to the drive shaft case?? Is this going to be a concern or problem?

This is my first venture to the Dark side with a car tire, thanks for any response, scotty

Scotty,

Most 1800's have that tight of a clearance and none has complained yet of rubbing! I have seen some and they are close but no problems.

Welcome to the darkside and let us know how you like it! It will take about 300 miles for you to settle in with the darkside. Some guys like it from the git go!

Welcome Aboard! I only have 1/16" and no rubbing, your tire gets narrower the faster it spins, so as long as there's clearance at rest, your fine. Have Fun!

Howdy, thanks for the words of encouragement (SMILE) I figured that if i had a problem it would be when i leaned into a tight corner or at slow speeds..i put on around 50 miles tonioght of hwy and town driving and no rubs...i never felt more secure on a bike than the way it feels now!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers, scotty
