Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
My mechnic called told me no on the ct, won't get into details nothing bad just afraid to do it . Thats ok I have already talked to wally world and they said they could do it. Just have to take the tire and rim up and supposedly they will do it. If not I have a third option with a stealer in Jackson Tn, they said they would do it, but did not recommend it. Oh well I am looking at this sunday having it done. Will pull the wheel off tommorrrow afternoon. Will post pictures and give my impressions when I am done.Oh I think I will take the disc off to be safe.

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
Motorcycle jack is a must have item....Harbor freight and Sears have some that work.....
Then you just have to make sure to lift in the right area for the area your working on....
Glad your bikes okay...Its worth the effort...

Set backs again!
Ok, wally world said no this morning on the tire, said there machine would not work with a motorcycle rim. Funny thought u don't need a machine to pull off and put on a tire, though I know it makes it much eaiser.I used to work on my dad's 18 wheelers and tire changes by hand were the norm. Any links on do it yourself tire changes? Still will try the stealer option though, I still may have a couple of other options.

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
You can change it yourself, but the hard part maybe breaking down the bead. I have a manual tire machine that I used to break the bead, then it was just a matter of prying off the tire with screw drivers. Tire irons would be good, but screw drivers will work. Here is a machine that would do the job, and you can use it for auto tires as well. I have this machine, but without the M/C adapter. They work well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Rand-Motorcycle-Tire-Changer-ATV-Auto_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43998QQihZ007QQitemZ170237264006QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
You can tell the stealer you are building a drag bike, or a stunt bike for burn-outs. Best bet is to find a one man shop.

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
dont waste your money on that tire changer .... I have the same thing bought from harbor freight and it is junk ... not politically correct but there it is. To go even further across the PC line .... it is cheap chinese shit. It will work to break the tires off the beads if you weigh about 400 lbs or have an extra leverage bar. The mc attachment is worthless.
Look for small independent shops that specialize in speed or Hd's. Sometimes it helps to tell them it is for a drag bike. If you walk in carrying the wheel and new tire they are more prone to doing it. Got to love close minded save the world from their own ignorace people out there.
Good luck
See you out there

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
I have had mine for going on 6 years now. It has worked good for me. I have probably mounted and dismounted close to 50 tires so far with no problems. Some very old tires that have been on the wheels for years and years take a little extra care in breaking the bead down. It is not hard, you just have to keep rotating the tire. I haven't found a tire yet that I could not dismount, or mount on the machine, and it has paid for itself many times over. No I am not a sales rep for the machine , just giving my personal experience, and I would not recommend anything that I thought was junk! I have no experience with the M/C adapter, and it does look a little hokey. But I would think it would be better then screw drivers, but again, 0 experience. Just my 2. Larry

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
Yep the one man operation may be the way to go, got a guy who works on H/D, I'll give him a call this afternoon. Oh, the reason I don't want the stealer to is the one who said they can do the c/t is not open till tuesday, I really want to get this done before then. Bike has not been rode for 4 days now. Also will be out of town for 2 weeks as of this wed. One more thing the post by YELLOW WOLF on the gold wing forum is pretty good, heard about him a while back, just confirms some good points I have already came tjo the conculsion about riding the darkside. Though, my riding style is nowhere near his, that vidoe almost made me queezy!! LOL

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
I got a thumbs up on my C/T. Got a friend from H/S who has a private shop works on H/D only but does a lot of tire changes. He said he did not care what I was doing cause he likes cash, and he said size is not a problem up to 10" tires he does a lot of racing slicks. Tomorrow afternoon after 4:00 pm he said bring it on up and he take care of it ! Looking much better for the darkside Whoo!!

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
Ok, got the c/t mounted on the rim :bball: . Tried to mount the tire back on the bike and I can't get it in past the exhaust brackets. tried to lift the bike higher, but the floor jack will not go high enough. I went ahead and got a motorcycle jack. Will put tire on tomorrow afternoon. Too dark to work now. Oh, the tire looks SWEEET! :bom: :bom: ( if i need to i will remove the exhaust bracket if it still gives me problems. Later.

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
If the exhaust bracket is all that is in the way you should be fine... I had to lift mine up over the tire and set it down onto it.
Good luck

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
I had to take off one of the exhaust braket bolts and loosen the other one, then the bracket would fall down out of the way. Piece of cake after that. Don't forget to make sure you have enough moly paste on the gears..

Re: Dogulas tire just purchased!!
Ok, finaly got the tire on!!!!! Let the air pressure out of the tire, the exhaust bracket bolts out and raised the jack as high as it would go. Used some 2x4s to lift the tire up gradualy and slide it in. Got everything back together and realized I did not put the extra washer on the exhaust bracket bolt next to the engine so I will go back and take of that later. Sorry no pictures as of yet. Will be a few day before that. Rode about 30 miles, first impressions, on very rough roads like the one I live on, it seemed to want find the rough spot of the road quickly, not bad just different. Braking was much faster! Taking off it absoutly has more traction!!! On a decent HWY the ride was very smoth. In the curves it takes them just as good as my m/t but it wants to upright itself faster then a m/t. I knda like that feature. I did some extremly low speed turns and it seems to realy do good in that aspect, a little better then my m/t. My PSI is 44 right now and shocks are set to 3. Oh, I can tell for sure that my front tire is bad, the dunflap has got to go, Ha Ha I got a met 880 for that problem and it will go on in a few days!! I will test it out this weekend on some twisties and give it a going over. So far I like it just some quirks to get used to,don't thinik it will be a problem.I am finaly a DARKSIDER!! Oh, and thanks to all for the tips!!U guys ROCK
